I want to buy a laser printer for DTP with the Amiga. It should not cost more than $1200. Currently I would prefer the HP 4P laser printer which I can buy for $1050, but I am not sure if it is the right one. I want to: -print with 600*600 dpi DINA 4 full page. Is 2 MB printer memory enough ? I dont think so. -the printer should be able to print the page from the printers memory, because I need this page more than once( 4 pages/per minute). -print on one day more than 1000 pages (heat problems etc.). -to be able to connect it to an other computer too, lets say a Mac. -know if Postscript is very useful (HP 4MP). The printer has to be reliable, I dont need the newest stuff. I know only the price of the the HP 4P. What costs the 4MP, 4, 4Plus etc. ? Any answer is appreciated. -Franz flying from Aying(Germany) with Amiga 1200`030 & Autopilot

If you're doing DTP and are going to spend all that money on a HP4P, buy the PostScript version. The 4MP can be had for about $1300 and will print many times (like 1-2 minutes instead of 30 minutes) faster than the 4P. If you buy the 4P and decide to add PostScript later, you will have to upgrade the memory to 6MB too. Adding it later is more expensive. This printer is great, but if you're planning on printing 1000 pages on one day, this isn't the printer for you. You should consider the HP4M Plus instead. It's a lot more money, but little desktop printers such as the 4P and 4MP aren't designed for that kind of abuse. Michael @ Soft-Logik Publishing

Thanks for you answer Mike. I think that the HP 4MP or the HP 4M Plus would be the best two printer for doing my job. If I would buy the HP 4 MP I need an extra photocopier. Is 6 MB ram enough for 600*600dpi DINA full page ? A friend of mine said that if I need a 4 MB Simm(PC) he will lend me the 4 MB Simm to use it in the printer (possible ?). -Franz flying from Aying(Germany) with Amiga 1200`030 & Autopilot
