#CheckSum Error

I downloaded a .gif file recently with AP that aborted. Now I have an
icon for a file that has no size, i.e., '0 bytes' but I cannot delete it.
All the manuevers I've tried give me a window with the text: "Data (the
name of my hd partition) has a checksum error on disk block 4846."
Everything else works ok as far as I can tell. The partition has plenty
of space left.
I haven't been able to delete the icon with the shell or the workbench.
I'm not sure how to fix the corruption or even how bad the problem is. I
can't find a reference to "checksum" in my 3.0 (the paperback) or my 2.x?
manual (the big notebook). The new version doesn't have Diskdoctor, so
that utility is not available (though I've heard it is inadequate anyway).
I don't even know what other info is pertinent.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Your best bet is to download Dave Haynie's DiskSalv from here. I'm not
sure if it's in AmigaUser or AmigaTech. FAR better than the doctor which
couldn't heal itself.

You might try DiskSalv2, a shareware program by Dave Haynie, which I think
is the best currently available utility program for getting us out of
"messes" with corrupted disks and files. It is available on Fred Fish disk
#891. I don,t know if you can get it in this or other Amiga forums on CIS?
It is available for downloading on several BBS's.
