Talking to myself again.. <g> I will be going on a roadshow trip with Autodesk as of monday so I will not be around to answer questions for the next week and a half or so after that.. I may try to check in at various times if possible. If you need urgent help call tech support at 606-371-5533 or leave me email — brick@iac.net 22 people have downloaded the new PAR software as of tonight.. Any comments.. How is the new scrub bar? Brick, Thanks for the 1.30b! It does work well. JKJ and I were talking about the PAR and I mentioned that it would be great to have the time and date data displayed on the PAR drive files (I end up with so many segments and clips; its difficult to remember what the heck they are). JKJ made a better suggestion which I thought I'd relay to you: Could we have a comment line attached somehow to each file name? Perhaps with a toggle button to display all comment lines below the file name or maybe a double click on the file name would display the comment line. It sure would be a great help. Alec Jason

>>How is the new scrub bar? It's a bit better, but I still like the old one much more. The old one allowed me to easily and accurately drag the slider through an animation of any length, at any speed, matching my mouse movement exactly, forward or backwards, and in a single mouse move. This simply does not happen with the new code. To drag through a 1200 frame animation at a casual pace, I have to drag the slider 12 inches (I measured, and 12 inches only gets me 1/4 of the way through), let go, wait 2.5 seconds for the cursor to reappear, drag again…. for a total of FOUR times. I'm sorry, but that's just plain silly. Also, The DOS file slider does not conform with the same sliders in any other software I've used. For example, in a windows file selector, open to a directory with 1300 files. if files 0 thru 9 are in the window, then a click in the bar should bring up files 9 thru 19 (or 10 – 20), and another click would bring up 19 thru 29, and so on. Why does every click in the PAR's file slider drop down 130 or so files in the same 1300 file directory? Is this an amiga thing? I ask because every other DOS file selector in every other DOS or Win program I have will move down the list by one page per click. In the same directory, a normal file slider, if dragged will let you go from the very top of the list to the very end, and the mouse sensitivity will not change so the entire range of files can be accessed with a single mouse movement. Easy. The Par slider, once again makes things much more difficult. I just did some tests, and in the same 1300 file directory, I had to click, drag 12 inches, release, and repeat for a total of TEN times just to get to the bottom of the list!! That's TEN FEET of mouse travel to drag through the directory. Why is it set up this way? Basically, it takes alot of seemingly unnecessary time to select a specific file in the middle of a large directory with the par software, while the same action in other programs is simple (drag the slider where you want in a single move, maybe click in the bar once or twice, and that's it). The way it's set up now just seems strange. BTW, smaller directories are easier to navigate, but as the file count goes up, things get more difficult. David PS: I don't know if you'll check in here soon, so I'll send a copy of this message to your Net address. PS: PS: Has anyone else noticed this, or am I just going nuts?

David: I just checked out the 1.30b interface and have to agree with some of your assesment of the sliders. The scrub bar is difficult to get comfortable with as it takes some elbow grease to move through an animation. The DOS slider is a little different but if you click and hold in the side slider the files buzz by pretty quick. My big question to you, to Brick, to anyone – Can you operate this new software when you shell out of 3DS to DOS? I cannot, couldn't do 1.27b either, and I need to know if it is even possible. Shelling out to version 1.0 is still no problem. Bob

I can also confirm that the mouse movement required in 1.30b is whacko. You really have to stroke the mouse to get through long animations. This is just tooooo slooooowwwww!! What happened to the scrub bar function from 1.0??? If it ain't broke, don't fix it!! Later, -Jeff

FWIW: I checked out the scrub bar function and found this out: If I move the mouse slowly I can repeat what you observe. If I give the mouse a sudden move the scrub bar flies across the slide in quick fashion. I'm using a MS mouse with version 9.02 software. Otherwise I agree that I liked some of the old features better from 1.27b.
