It's a bit better, but I still like the old one much more. The old one
allowed me to easily and accurately drag the slider through an animation of any
length, at any speed, matching my mouse movement exactly, forward or backwards,
and in a single mouse move. This simply does not happen with the new code. To
drag through a 1200 frame animation at a casual pace, I have to drag the slider
12 inches (I measured, and 12 inches only gets me 1/4 of the way through), let
go, wait 2.5 seconds for the cursor to reappear, drag again…. for a total of
FOUR times. I'm sorry, but that's just plain silly.
Also, The DOS file slider does not conform with the same sliders in any
other software I've used. For example, in a windows file selector, open to a
directory with 1300 files. if files 0 thru 9 are in the window, then a click in
the bar should bring up files 9 thru 19 (or 10 – 20), and another click would
bring up 19 thru 29, and so on. Why does every click in the PAR's file slider
drop down 130 or so files in the same 1300 file directory? Is this an amiga
thing? I ask because every other DOS file selector in every other DOS or Win
program I have will move down the list by one page per click.
In the same directory, a normal file slider, if dragged will let you go
from the very top of the list to the very end, and the mouse sensitivity will
not change so the entire range of files can be accessed with a single mouse
movement. Easy. The Par slider, once again makes things much more difficult. I
just did some tests, and in the same 1300 file directory, I had to click, drag
12 inches, release, and repeat for a total of TEN times just to get to the
bottom of the list!! That's TEN FEET of mouse travel to drag through the
directory. Why is it set up this way? Basically, it takes alot of seemingly
unnecessary time to select a specific file in the middle of a large directory
with the par software, while the same action in other programs is simple (drag
the slider where you want in a single move, maybe click in the bar once or
twice, and that's it).
The way it's set up now just seems strange. BTW, smaller directories
are easier to navigate, but as the file count goes up, things get more
difficult.
