.ppm Support?

I just discovered yet another file format. It's called ".pp," which I think
stands for "Portable Pixmap Format."
Has support for this been added to Imagemaster yet?

That's usually .ppm, isn't it? It's a format used by a set of image-conversion
tools for Unix. I believe they've been ported to the Amiga, too. Are you
saying you have .ppm files coming from an ao\pplication that doesn't save out
some other format that Imagemaster already supports? 🙂
No – we're not aware of a "portable pixel" format. That doesn't prove it's
not widely used, although it does _tend_ to indicate so… Do you know
what program sourced the image?

Well actually I am trying to access a PhotoCD image on a CDROM drive
hooked to the Amiga.
I copied the image (.pcd) file to the Amiga hard drive.
Then I used a program that I downloaded here on CIS (Photocd.lha, extracts
the UNIX oriented program hpcdtoppm) program to extract one of the images
from the .pcd file into the .ppm file. Then I used yet another program to
convert the .ppm file into a .iff file! Sheesh!
I'd like to use ImageMaster as soon as possible in this conversion process
to reduce the number of steps that I have to go through to get the image
into ImageMaster.
BTW, the photocd.lha archive included SOURCE code in case you're
interested…

PhotoCD is not likely to be supported in the near future by Imagemaster
R/t; as for intermediate formats, they are always possible – depends on
how common they are, essentially. Once requests for a particular format
reach critical mass, we do it (if it's not commercially restricted, as is
PhotoCD)

Because someone else stold the code <g>. Actually, it wouldn't be too
difficult to create a PhotoCD loader for IM. The PhotoCD loader's for .PPM
and viewer for OpalVision include the source code so it could be adapted.
I think that is how the ImageFX loader was created.

You've put your finger on it – the loader is PD, and the owners of the
PhotoCD technology have not (yet, I guess) bothered to go after the
authors, who one could probably safely assume have nothing in particular
to go after. OTOH, if _we_ did it, we'd be staring down a lawyers cravat
quite fast, at least that's my guess.
If someone produced a PhotoCD loader for IM R/t, I wouldn't mention it
here, as I'm not in the business of promoting that type of activity.
If PhotoCD became available through some reasonable path (read that as
affordable to us), we'd support it, probably no surprise to anyone. But
again, _as far as I know_, it's NOT available.

Jay: I know you have ImageMaster, but you might also look into ImageFX.
There is a PhotoCD loader for ImageFX in the public domain. It's basically
transparent to the system and works just like any other loader for the
program. ImageFX 2.0 is just around the corner, so if you do want to
purchase the program, it would be worth the wait.
