#Wizard download probs
5 messages in this thread
A while ago I wrote to you saying that I had a problem downloading to a Sharp
OZ-8600, and you responded (thank you!) with some possible fixes (1 – Rename
STP files; 2 – Try to export to a .txt file; 3 – Run all four options in file
doctor).
I have followed these suggestions, but still have the problem (DTS was able to
export to a .txt file with no problems). When I attempt to download to tel1,
DTS runs through the address book names in a status window. After the first
run-through, the transfer restarts with the "A"s. Immediately, the names in
the status display are garbled, with all sorts of strange characters. A dialog
box appears, but the message in it is unreadable as well, and it stays there
until I click the OK. Some of the data ends up on the Wizard, but it is
corrupted.
I am using another Windows application which communicates (two-way) with the
Wizard perfectly. I am using COM4, and have shut down all other applications
before trying the DTS transfer.
What should I try next? Thanks
Dear Jonathan:
This one is weird – the Wizard interface was actually written for the 8000
series and to my knowledge has run very smoothly. Is the text in the *.txt
file that you exported corrupted? What happens if you try to export a smaller
Category of data? When Desktop set sorts through the database looking for
entries to download, it scrolls through all of the page 1's and then goes on to
page 2's (A2) for example. This would lead me to think that there may be a
problem with a record on the A2 page – check there to see if you can see
anything obvious.
Can you download the Calendar data? Can you transfer data from another DeskTop
Set Address Book? I think this is a problem in your current database. If you
don't have another address book, select File/Setup/Create new book… and then
add a few "dummy" entries.

Tracy,
The data in the *.txt file was fine, and I tried creating a new book with just
a few entries, but ended up with the same problem. I am not using the calendar
at this time, so I didn't test its download. I can transfer data to another
address book without any problems.
Because I was running out of options, I deleted all traces of DTS from my PC
and reloaded the program. I removed all of the device drivers for my scanner,
CD-ROM, WFW network, etc. and tried again. Still, the same problem. I did get
a screen print of a garbled dialog box and will fax it to you if you post your
fax number.
Thank you for your help.

Dear Jonathan:
WOW! This is a weird one – I got the fax! It seems like it might be a damaged
*.exe file. I would like to send you a new install diskette. Please e-mail
(do not post to the forum) your mailing address and I'll get a new diskette out
to you.
