#Reminders Startup
5 messages in this thread
In order to receive reminders from a Desk Top Set address book, the REMINDERS
program must be runing according to page 67 of the manual. I moved the icon for
the calendar and the address book into the startup group for Windows. Moved the
icon for REMINDERS in there too (which I activated by simply checking for
reminders)…but it wouldn't stay.
How do I get the REMINDERS program to start up with windows?
Since my computer is left on 24 hours a day, will the reminders automatically
flow to the list at midnight?
John,
There shouldn't be any problem with the Reminders icon in your Startup group.
If you move it from the desktop (the Windows wallpaper) it won't move because
that is representative of a program running, not a launching icon. You can
create an icon in your Startup group if you have problems moving it.
DeskTop Set can get confused if left running past midnight. Close down your
DeskTop Set programs when you leave for the day, then open them in the morning.

1) Reminders icon – I moved it from the bottom of the screen to the Start Up
window while it was running. When I closed the Start Up window and simply
reopenned it, it was gone! The only way I know how to activate that icon is to
check Reminders from the Address book.
How do I get Reminders to start automatically with Windows?
2) If the program gets confussed …and I'm forced to leave it on while I
travel…we have a problem with this brand new software. How do I get it to
close automatically before midnight and reopen automatically around 7:30am?
1) Go to the Start Up Group. Select File/New.. from Program Manager's main
menu. Select Program Item. Click OK. In the Description field, type
Reminders. In the Command Line field, type the path to the
\deskapp\dtremind.exe file. Click OK.
2) Once the Reminders program is running, it will set off any alarms that you
have when the date and time appear. The problems are generally related to
leaving the Calendar program open overnight. Some people have had problems with
events not floating from day to day, but it is not universally reproduceable.
The only way to get a program to close and reopen at a specific time is if you
are running a shell like Norton DeskTop or PC Tools that allows you to create
macros to run certain *.exe files at a given time.

I use a program called Barclock to start my calendar and reminders every
morning at 0800. Among other useful features (it places the date and time in
the top bar of the active Windows program, has alarms, a calendar, and a
resource monitor), it will run programs at preset times on a daily, weekly,
monthly or single-event basis. I have it run a Windows recorder macro that
runs Ozcis for Windows at 0500 every morning, and at 0800 each day, it just
runs Calendar and Reminders directly. There are a number of schedulers out
there, many of them shareware (as is Barclock), but this is the one I use for
this function. If you left your machine on all of the time, you could have a
Windows recorder shut down the program at midnight, then start them up again at
the beginning of your day.
