#MCI Calling Card setup

Could you pls give me some guidance in setting up my calling card dialing
format? I've experimented without much luck.
I use an MCI service in the following format:
1-800-674-7000 in about 2 seconds there is a tone I enter my calling card
number (14 digits) I enter the called number (1-xxx-xxxx)
Note that this is different from the older 950-1022 sequence of dialing the
called number before the calling card number. Thanks.

Dear Rolfe:
Select File/Setup/Calling Cards.. from your Dialer menu. In the Access field
at the top, enter the 1-800 number. In the Card field, enter your card number.
Down at the bottom, in the access field, enter <ACCESS>. In the Domestic
number field, enter: <CARD>1<LOCAL>.
This will dial 1800 xxx-xxxx…..then, you will be prompted with a screen that
says "Is carrier ready?" When the 2 seconds go by and the carrier is ready for
the card number and the phone number you are dialing, click YES. Then the Card
number and the number you are dialing will be dialed. If you need to put a
pause between the card number and the dialed d\number, you can use commas:
<CARD>,1<TEL>
Back in the Address Book, select the record you wish to dial with the MCI
calling card. Select Dial/Options… and select the dialing MCI format.

Your instructions were very clear, but I'm still not in business.
The modem dials the access number OK, but when I'm prompted "Is carrier ready?"
and click YES, the contents of Domestic number is not dialed; instead the modem
disconnects. The normally yellow Dial button remains blue. I've tried various
things in the Domestic number – <CARD> (with my card number defined in the box
above), some digits, etc.
Here are some clues that might help:
I can dial non-credit card numbers successfully, but see next paragraph.
The only way I've been successful in getting control from the modem with the
TALK button or space bar is to use a Dial Suffix of blank. Yet my modem manual
lists ";" as a valid option under the D command. For example, if I dial a
number and hit the space bar, the only way the modem will let me disconnect is
if the dial suffix is blank. The Problem Modem button has no effect.
I noticed when using TEST on dialing strategies that any custom Initialization
string I create is never used (regardless of whether it's checked in the Custom
Modem Initialization box.
My typical setup is no boxes checked in Custom Modem Init except Dial Suffix
(set to blank).
I'm also puzzled as to why the radio button to disable the speaker has no
effect. When using TEST I never see an M command in the modem string.
