Can you recommend a low cost, high speed caller Id modem that supports Enhanced
Caller ID?
Oh yeah, does Desktop Set support Enhanced Caller ID? Just in case you don't
know, Enhanced Caller ID shows not only the phone number of the caller, but the
name in which it is listed.

Dear Joe:
There is a Supra Modem that supports both name and number download. It is a
14,400 fax modem with caller ID. Konstantin uses the modem and seems to like
it alot. DeskTop Set does not currently support the name reporting, but the
4.1b update will…end of October.

I just purchased a Whozz Calling? unit from Zeus Phonestuff and was pleased
to learn that it came with Desktop compatible software. They told me that
they worked with Okna in putting the package together. And, it works like a
charm, even though I haven't hooked it up to DTS yet. I've just been testing
it with the DOS TSR so far.
I also own a modem that does Caller ID and bought this unit so that I really
would have *full time* Caller ID on my computer (we have two phone lines and
I can receive calls on the other line when the computer is using one).
Having tried it with the modem, I now prefer the dedicated approach.

Can you have DTS recognize unwanted callers (phone numbers), go off hook and
immediately back on hook?
A lot of calls to Tech Support people and other computer people seem to be
answered without benefit of even one ring. How is this done?

DTS Caller ID doesn't have a screening function, so if there's an incoming call
you don't want to answer you either have to ignore it or cut it off yourself.
The reason calls to Tech Support people (and many order services) are answered
so quickly is that incoming calls to these companies are routed via computer to
an available agent, then automatically put through the phone. The agent has
no control over picking up the call, they just get a warning beep in their
headset that a call is being connected. Since the computer is doing the actual
connection, it goes through without ringing.

I've heard (on WP Users) that Konstantin is very receptive to suggestions with
merit. I believe the screening as I described has merit.
I'm very excited about DTS keeping a log of incoming calls. I'd need for the
computer to intercept the first ring so my young ones can't thwart the system
by grabbing the phone on the first ring. Can this be done by DTS?

The Whozz Calling unit from Zeus Phonestuff near Atlanta will do everything
that you want. It intercepts the first ring (of course, you have to install
it upstream of all of the phones). It will also block calls — their DOS TSR
software does this, but I don't know about the DTS interface, since I haven't
installed that yet.
Give Zeus a call at 800-240-4637. Ask for Keith Ruehle. I think that when
you talk to Keith, you are talking to the guy, or one of the guys, who
designed the unit.
