Glenn: I've got two single frame to video systems, one at home and one at work. My work system is a "classical" animation to tape system with a Targa graphics board, a 300 MBy on a side 5.25" magneto-optical disk drive, a Lyon Lamb animation controller, and a Sony VO-5850 editing U-matic recorder. (plus monitors) This is pretty expensive stuff – $12 to $15K just for the hardware. I typically render 24-bit 512 X 486 .TGA files to the MO drive and then batch record the whole set to tape in one shot. If I'm animating for our TV people I will record an alpha version too. At home I've got a DPS Personal Animation recorder, a Targa board and a 3.5" 128 MB MO drive. I can render either to the MO drive or to the PAR and it gives me real time playback out to a much cheaper VCR. A PAR based system wouldn't absolutely need the TARGA or the MO drive, just test render to the PAR, but I like being able to work on the Targa even if my eventual target is the PAR.
