#TEMPOrarily out of order

Argh, Tempo is driving me nuts. I am animating a sequence where the camera is following a road at frame 700 we come to a city and I have to slow down the camera in order to fly through the city streets. The subject matter requires that the slow-down occur fairly close to 700 but adjusting the speed drasticlly changes the frame # at which the slow down occurs. I've gone back and redone the tutorials, Ive tried isolating the segments and using the Fit To Track command all to no avail. Well its been a long day maybe I'll have a different perspective tommorow. ME

Hi Max, << slow down and Tempo.. >> My first observasion is that this sounds very similar to the Tempo rollercoaster tutorial. Have you done the tutorial yet? Adjusting the speed of the roller coaster at specific times for realistic results was the main focus of that tutorial.. jonas

Jonas I think the problem was that if you add a vertex to the velocity curve at a specific frame number to slow an element down that you need to speed the element up the same amount at some other point in order for the slowdown to occur at the same frame number which you specified on the curve. I couldn't figure this out yesterday but this morning it was all perfectly clear. Thanks for the reply. ME

Relax and slow down (so to speak). As the roller-coaster tutorial tries to make excrutatingly clear, you've got to be very careful to edit your motion dynamics from the beginning to the end, and don't go back and redo something that you've done before your current position. If you change something before your current spot, it'll affect everything down the road. Get your motion correct up to the point that you want it to slow down, and then don't touch anything before that. At that point, if you only touch frames later than that, none or your prior motion will be affected. – G

It would be nice if we could "lock" a position and have TEMPO do its adjustments around the lock. Also, when animating a loop, any TEMPO adjustments change the end position. It would be very helpful if some kind of "Position Locks" could be implemented. Just my 2 cents -David

My problem was adding a vertex to the velocity curve that would change the velocity at a specific frame # without adding extra frames to my animation. The soloution which I discovered this morning upon returning to work after a good nights sleep was that if I change the velocity of an element at one point and wish for that change in velocity in the keyframer to correspond to the frame # were I placed it on the velocity curve I must make a change in velocity in the opposite direcion to compensate for for the first change, ie. I slow the camera down by 20 mph. at frame 240 I need to speed the camera up by 20 mph. at another point on the curve if I want the slow down to still take place at 240. If you guys are going to make an update to the tempo IPAS at some time I do have a few suggestions: 1. How about a funtion similar to scale which would allow you to select two verticies on the velocity curve and if you slowed one down it would speed the other up accordingly to maintain the position frame # wise of the verticies on the curve. This would have been just what I needed. 2. Moving verticies on the velocity curve would be much easier if the directional controls worked like the rest of the moduals in 3DS. Well I just want to say that the Tempo IPAS is a great thing and I appologise if I sounded like I was complaining about it the other night I just couldn't see through the 12th hour fog in my brain to find the solution that was so excruciatingly clear this morning. Good suggestion re #1. I'll keep that in mind for the future. I'm glad that you mutated enough last night to get the solution… it's definitely not intuitively obvious. – G
