I have just downloaded Term 4.2 and installed it on my hard disk. When I try to
run it, I get the error message "Failed to open GTDISPLAY.LIBRARY" despite the
fact that this file is (as per instructions) in the same directory as Term. All
suggestions appreciated.

Try putting gtdisplay.library in your libs: directory.

Thanks. As the other Steve pointed out, the file is called GTLAYOUT.LIBRARY.I
tried putting it in libs, but it made no difference. The small text file which
accompanies term says that GTLAYOUT.LIBRARY must be in the same directory as
term. I have TERM 4.0, also with GTLAYOUT.LIBRARY (different version) and that
runs ok>

Peter,
Make sure you did NOT change the case of the file gtlayout.library (the
Capital and lower case letters)…in the case of library files, it IS
important…if not capitalized exactly the way it was when you got it, it won't
load properly!

On occassion I run Term 4.2 … I don't have any gtdisplay.library. I do have
a gtlayout.library and it is in libs:.

You are right, of course, I should have said gtlayout.library! (I got some of
the letters right. <g>). I did put it in libs: just to make sure, although the
small text file in the archive stresses that it should be in the same directory
as term, but it still doesn't work. I have TERM 4.0, which also has a
GTLAYOUT.LIBRARY in the same directory, and that works.

Library names are case sensitive. Make sure you didn't change it from the
original archive.

Have you tried copying "GTDISPLAY.LIBRARY" to LIBS:?
If not give that a try, observing the exact case of the spelling in case the
library is case-sensitive.
