#Toaster Program Bus

I am having a problem with the proram bus on my Toaster. I have a 4000 with
3.1 loaded. It seems every time I use DV3 (Background) the black video seems
not to be stable, or if I have video playing into one of the inputs I can see
outlines of the video in the black. It seems like the video is bleeding
through to the other sources. However the preview bus is fine. I have a TBC
IV inside my toaster and it is genlocked to a AVE5, and I am using sources 1 &
2. Has anyone else had this kind of problem, could it just be interferience.
It is not a major problem unless I want to black a tape. And due to the moving
video I don't seem to have this problem with any other source. Anyone who has
any advice it would be appreciated. Thanks.

You might check the Newtek postings in the Amiga vendor forum. A fellow named
Jerry Hatchett had reported a similar problem and eventually tracked it down to
his VTR "echoing" back a luma signal. He checked all termination (no problems
there) isolated his AC & lifted all grounds, (no change) replaced all cables
(still no change) thought it was his TBC (same as yours, not the problem) then,
the Toaster (sent it to Newtek and nothing was wrong), then finally he got Sony
to replace his record VTR (UVW series) and the problem mysteriously
dissapeared. Sony never admitted there was a problem, but it seems as though
all other possibilities were eliminated, so it might be a good place to begin
your search.
Another thing to bear in mind is that Toaster's black (DV3) isn't really
reference black as it's known by the rest of the world at large. It's better to
create a black background in Toasterpaint and then keep it in your framestore
directory for use as a black reference. Even though it's closer to zero black
than the standard 7.5 IRE, it's much more stable in sync value than the 20 or
so IRE that is output by DV3. Another thing to consider is the fact that
broadcasters and duplication facilities set all their TBC levels from incoming
tapes with the assumption that any black screen at the beginning is at 7.5 IRE.
So obviously it's best to have a lower level than a higher one when sending out
dupes or masters to other facilities. Best solution is to actually use a black
burst generator or lens cap your live camera feed and use it as an input
(genlock the rest of your system to it fr best results).

Make sure you don't have any Cable TV hooked to your system. This may
introduce grounding problems to the signal.

Do you have the termination set properly in the set-up screen? If your inputs
are not looped to other devices the termination should be set (unelss the
COME from looped sources and tone of the other devices is termintated
already).
