<sigh..> I think I'm a little behind on what's going on but as far as I can tell the b-spline modeling isn't going to be a part of 3DS. I was pretty excited about the prospects of what b-spline would add to my "limited" modeling abilities. I really like 3DS, in a way it's changed my life and I'm not looking for any other program. I just don't understand why "if I understand correctly…correct me if I'm wrong" why I have to pay for something that has been advertised as being a part of the package in the first place. I think everyone understands if there are bugs or whatever problems that might exist, this would hold up the release. I'd rather wait for a full upgrade than a partial now and pay again for another partial a little later. Like I said, I really like 3DS and I'm staying with it, I just don't understand whay this is being done to us who rely and desire to rely on this product. Corel Draw is really pushing in a somewhat similiar way. I started off with v1.1and their upgrade costs are outrageous. 3DS only cost $249 to upgrade but Corel which is only around 400/500 buck wants 200 bucks to upgrade!! Once a software company has you..you're screwed…Either put up or shut up! As much as we complain..we're all gonna have to pay for a semi-upgrade, whateverthey ask <and they're very fair in their pricing in com comparison>. They can do what they want, how they want, charge what they want and we have two choices…pay or get left behind. I'll pay..reluctantly..but I'm in too deep, there's nowhere left to go except to some lesser, crappy animation program. I can't afford to go to a bigger program.. Sadly awaiting my partial upgrade… Please give an idea of what the "next upgrade" is gonna cost so I can start saving for that…some of us don't have excess bucks laying around so we have to save and plan for these things… committed to 3DS… Patrick Malone

<<I'd rather wait for a full upgrade than a partial now and pay again for another partial a little later.>> Good point. After the major enhancements of r3 after r2, I think we're all expecting a lot from Adesk. This really shouldn't be r4 — maybe r3.5? The real sore spot here is that spline-based modeling was advertised for so long as such a major feature, and now it's being denied to us. Personally, I'm still neutral. One thing I *really* respect about Adesk is the reliability of their software. As I mentioned in another thread previously, I've never owned a piece of Adesk software with buggy features. When I went to my dealer to upgrade to r4 (still waiting, of course), I didn't feel I needed to wait and here from early users for a bug report. I can trust Autodesk's software, and understand their reasoning behind pulling the patch modeler. I doubt it was all THAT buggy, after all. Still, this doesn't prevent me from being angry! Mathew B.

Agreed! I'm behind Autodesk 100%…I also own acadr12 and will soon go to 13. I love their product….Just mad that it was advertised and even some dealers who got their copies early got the spline modeler..such as it is.. I'm not going anywhere..I just wish they'd maybe cut a price cut on those of us who preordered expecting the modeler… Patrick

I think you would have been vastly underwhelmed by the overall usefullness of patch spline modeling. Without the ability to draw curves and skin them, splines are just as confusig and painful as polygons. You still have to move CV's around like crazy to get anything resembling a 3D model. True, there might have been some interesting things like being able to seemlessly patch on peice to another, already deformed piece, but all in all it is not the answer. I have full faith that the Yost Group will come through on what was a MAJOR wishlist item: real spline modeling. John Tissavary | LUNA cie, inc

Hi Guys.. I've been watching the messages about R4 and the patch mod. and all I can think of is that if it wasn't for the ADESK folks I probaly wouldn't be working in 3D because the software would be soooo far above my budget I could never get it. I have tried some of the less expensive animation programs and none of them can touch 3DS. Im no young chicken and remember the days when 8 and 16 color bit map graphics where big news and the only people who could make a 3d object where those who had acess to what was then monster computers that took up whole buildings<g>. No matter how much 3DS costs or the plugins that go with it I couldn't buy with money the hours of delightful mental pleasure the Adesk folks hav brought me, all us mad keyframers are privledged to even be in the animation game no matter what level we are working on. So hey guys stop bitchen and moanin about what you don't have and be happy we can play with what what we have , Im sure that a patch mod is in the works if not from Adesk then from some mad c programmer out there<g>. We're already livin large…. Harry D.

Harry, that was a very sweet thing to say. It helps to put the whole thing in context every once in awhile. Thanks, – G
