Rick, Thanks for your message. But WHERE IS— the "display" and where do I go
to select ORIGINAL or ECS. Is this in my preference editor called Overscan?
No, it is not in preferences. It is part of the ROM program. Here is a
detailed description on how to get to it:
Turn your machine on. Immediately push the two mouse buttons and hold
them in. In a few seconds, a screen will show up (Not a Workbench or
Shell screen. More like a CMOS setup program, if you speak in PC). There
are three options in front of you: Boot options, Display options, and
Expansion board diagnostics. Click on Display options. This brings you
to another screen with two more options: Display type (NTSC or PAL) and
Chip type (Original, ECS, or Best available). Click on Original or ECS,
hit ok, hit Boot, and you will bypass any video drivers you set in
preferences because these chip sets do not support it. It basically turns
your A1200 into an A500/600. This worked for me when I was trying to get
an SVGA monitor connected and needed to go back to my RGB monitor to try
again until I got it right. Hope this helps.
