Hi, Lanny
An interesting thing just happened. I was out in the driveway topping off
the radiator on the brown Bronco when a neighbor pulled his Honda three
wheeler in and introduced himself. John had seen my 18" rock saw in the
carport and was wondering if I was interested in selling it. Turns out he
knapps arrowheads. I've always wanted to learn how to do that, so I guess
I'll be seeing more of him.
That was an interesting news release in the Oct. Mineral News. You don't
suppose that "the finest rhodochrosite crystal on matrix in the world" is the
one we saw last May? Or was it the little brother?
Just bought a cellular phone last week. Those little suckers are way cool! I
could be in Coeur D'Alene and would still get my calls. The dealers around
here are literally giving them away provided you sign up for a minimum of six
months of service. I paid thirty bucks for mine 'cause I wanted one a little
bit nicer than the free ones. <g> Work provides a plan where one only pays 10
bucks a month plus 28 cents/minute air time. The plan includes call
forwarding, three way calling, call waiting, and free roadside assistance.

Selling the 18" saw? Ha Ha!
I expect that the "the finest rhodochrosite…" is the big brother to the one
we saw. You apparently got the idea that the other one that they had to buy to
get the one they had was smaller. Perhaps it was, I just assumed after learning
of this "best" one that it was the other one and is obviously bigger and
better. It is possible that the Rice's sold theirs, but kind of doubt it.
The cellular phone deal sounds pretty good. Only .28 per minute? That isn't a
bad deal. There probably are enough cells along I-5 and I-90 that you could
drive from Portland to Coeur d'Alene and talk to me all the way. (Of course at
.28 per minute the expense of 15 mpg on your Bronco will rapidly loose any
meaning in the scheme of considering expenses for the trip!
See you in Vancouver in about 11 days. Make the weather nice, I want to go
collect funny zeolites.

Yeah, but North of Castle Rock or East of the Gorge roaming charges kick in.
That runs from .75 to .99 a minute depending on who's system one is using.
Still, the nice thing is that folks don't _have_ to know where I am. I could
be at Disney World in Florida and the system will track me down.

I'll do what I can. The Monsoon Season kicked in last week with record setting
rainfall – up to 10" in 24 hours in some locations. Good thing the ground was
dry – might have gotten a bit messy if things had already been saturated. Are
you planning on going on the MMS field trip if they have one?

The Cellular people over this way are doing away with roaming charges, I
believe one can drive from the Silver Valley, to Coeur d'Alene, to Spokane, to
the Tri Cities without paying extra fees now! Not a bad deal cost wise, but I
wish some of the people I've seen would pay more attention to their driving and
leave the telephoning to someone else!
Yeah, thanks for the weather reports. I heard about your record rains. We
didn't get that much, but did get enough to change us from four inches short
for the year to a little over normal. Also some snow. The forecast tonight
(Thursday) is for 1-2 inches on the ground tomorrow morning as I drive out of
here.
so, if the weather is lousy Sunday (and the zeolite pit is in the upper
foothills), I will head home. Might be able to go look at a couple collections
first though.
