What is saved when the HOLD button is pushed? Back in R2 I tried to recover
the file created by hold to no avail… Why bother with Hold when it takes
almost as long as a Save and is no good if you crash anyhow?
Is there a way to recover a hold after a crash?
Thanks,
Donald Newlands
A hold is very useful for crash protection.
Here's a quoted section from the R4 readme.doc. (I think this is in
the R3 readme.doc as well.)
X.12. Restoring Data After a Crash
===================================
If you should crash while in 3D Studio, AND you have recently pressed the
Hold button in the icon panel, you can restore the data in the Hold
buffer. The Hold buffer is stored in the TEMP directory in a file called
MODEH$$$.TMP. Rename this file to anything with a .3DS extension
(HOLD.3DS), and then load the renamed file.
