Anyone, Does anyone know and have comments regarding "Truespace" (by Caligari) as a possible alternative modeler. I would love to see the spline based modeler for Studio and I look forward to eventually getting it when and if it is released. But in the meantime, just curious if there are other packages out there that might have a better modeler and be able to export the models to Studio? Thanks TD

You might want to ask this question in the GRAPHDEV forum. The Caligari folks hang out in there. – G

The IMAGINE program has an equivalent to a patch modeler. Objects can be modeled, then exported as DXFs to 3DS. I've done it! If you buy the book "3D Modeling Lab" Waite Group Press, you get a copy of Imagine 2.0 with the book. You will then be able to do patch modeling which can be exported toi 3DS. In the version that I have, though, I can't go from 3DS to Imagine. You get an upgrade offer to Imagine 3.0, which I don't have at this time and know nothing about. Jim Hawkins

Thanks for your input. I will look into that. TD

Truespace is nice to make some basic free form models. The perspective view helps much and if you have a fast machine (like a 90 Mhz Pentium) you can model very fast and easy. This is the only reason for a 3DS user to get Truespace. Render quality/speed and animation features are far behind 3DS. Michael

Thanks for your comments. That was my impression as well. I may have an opportunity to try it out soon. TD

There is a demo version of Truespace around, just with save/copy/etc disabled. I picked it up at COMDEX Canada. It's a little quirky in terms of interface but then again I actually *use* UpFRONT, so what do I know <g>. Maybe if you ask real nice in their section in GRAPHDEV they'll be able to shoot you a copy.
