(* Att: SYSOP This is being uploaded to Section 1 IPAS Usage because it deals with IPAS and the person to whom it is addressed frequents this section more often than S2 or S9. Please leave it here. Thanks. ) Mr. Munkeby, Thank you so much for your most amusing response. Sb #131576 In reviewing my original post, I feared my mirthful use of double entendre had given rise to misunderstanding. A Thomas Jefferson Award, two Fourth Estate Awards and recognition by Advertising Age have not prevented me from making an occasional boner. (ugh) Greatful Dead fans are call DEAD HEADS. I was trying to call your efforts to the attention of all BONE HEADS or BONES HEADS. The subject field is too short to say "Hey! There's a BONES IPAS in the House" so I tried to come up with something clever. Later it dawned on me that my giddy, mischievousness and use of BONE HEAD could possibly be misconstrued. Your bon mots reveal that you understood my intentions. JM > Press Release: JM > Something done to strengthen the body before the days of JM > the 24 hour Jacked in Cyber-man. JM > (press-release-press-release, ok 15 more reps. . .) This is killing me. I had to read it twice before it hit. So out of tune am I with the gymnasium set. I'm wondering how much more humor I've missed through lack of exposure. JM > … part of the grand plan to keep the bones underground. JM > … please bury this message OUCH!!! Mr. Munkeby, this is the seed from which my campaign sprang forth. Your comment confirms my original premise and is reflected in the observations of others. With respect for your request for feedback: Roger Danielsen 70323,3034 reports a problem with Bend Aid and Brandon at Cyberdreams 70323,3034 reports that his Micron P90 crashes and dumps to the screen when running the IPAS. My check for $50 is in the mail. I want to encourage your efforts. Your SHAREWARE approach is a welcome alternative. I hope other IPAS developers notice the success of your approach and are suitably motivated. | \ / BONES.ZIP/Bin Bytes: 103268, Count: 241 Title : SHAREWARE Bones IPAS: Cheap Skeletal Morphing Happy Halloween to all BONE HEADS Kevin Gibson Animation Nation <tm> -=It's a state of mind.=-

Kevin, Good news…. New work on Bones will add a non morphing addition to the Ipazs. I would like all that find this a good addition to this to send support to Mr. Munkeby . Not one to give up I reinstalled the bones Ipaz and it works now. -Brandon

I downloaded the Bones IPAS to try it out but after following the tutorial 3ds rel 4 locks up when choosing the actual object using "bones2". My screen gets dcrambled and that the end. I then need to re-boot the system. My system typical 16megs P66 pci ATI graphics pro turbo. I hope this IPAS can be made to work for me since it looks really nice fot the price. I will send a check if I can get it to work. Thanks in advance for any feedback on what to do.

Try reinstalling the program and make sure that you pick the base of the object [parent] in the keyframer. I think if you pick the child it crashes. will do some testing… Your crash description sounds just like mine. So try another object. let me know. -Brandon

I did reinstall the routines, but all I did was just unzip them again. I did get them to work however and I must say very impressive. The routines really do a great job on controlling the bend of single objects. I will now try some IK along with these. How much different is this bones ipas from the one Digimation is releasing? I think they want something like $300 or so. After a few more test I will send some money. Great job. Steve

I just wanted you know that I am not involed with bones but just a fellow traveler on Asoft. Glad that reinstalling worked.. Re Digimation please ask David Avgikos as he can best explain. -Brandon

Hi, What I intended was that if you choose a child bone, the set of bones that affects the morphs is simply the children of that bone. Parents, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins are ignored. (Please don't read any familial philosophy into this.) It's more likely that you simply ran into the aforementioned memory bug. As always, if you have a problem, bitch loudly. (I will probably stop telling people this when my Cserv mailbox contains 5 gig of complaints.) But, how else can I find out what problems real people (as opposed to yours-truly-propellerhead) are having. Happy Halloween. Joe

Hi, I am not exactly sure what you are doing. And, I am not using 3DSr4 yet, so I don't know if there is a problem there. I don't expect so since Yost, et al do a good job of insuring upward compatibilty with old versions of the IPAS library. However, a couple of things to try: The behaviour you are seeing can happen if you are using bones2 with another IPAS that also uses the appdata section. (Refer to the doc about incompatibility in this version.) If the tutorial you refer to is the one I uploaded, this is obviosly not the case. I have a version of bones2 that has a memory fix. I will CISmail you a copy o try out. Please let me know how it works out. I will be uploading the new version if everyone reports that it fixed their problems. Sorry you had trouble, hope this helps. Joe

Thank You Joseph, Great job. I say that because I reinstalled and followed the instructions and I finally got results. Very impressive. I will send some money. Look forward to the updates. I do a great number of aanimations and visuals for the Medical and Nursing Schools and our schedule indicates we will be doing more. This IPAS will help a great deal. I seem to using my SGI and Softimage less and less. They make creating bones quite easy though by just pointing and clicking for elongated tetrahedrons. Might consider a adding this. The pivot point is automatically placed at the base of the tetrahedron.

Hi, I am glad you liked it. If you have further problems please let me know. Concerning your suggestion about a bone-generator. Excellent idea. I will see if I can do one. It should be pretty easy. I have also considered allowing the user to choose the vertices that are the bone endpoints. I figure someone out there is eventually going to want a bone that pivots around it's center. (I know there are ways of faking this, but ease of use is important.) In any case, you can probably expect your idea in the final version. (Maybe named bones0?) Happy Halloween. Joe

Glad to hear it. Persistence is definitely a factor in success. Especially in this industry. Kevin Gibson Animation Nation <tm> New Orleans / SIGGRAPH '96
