#Rendering Help???
6 messages in this thread
I'm looking for any help or suggestions on rendering from 3ds. I'm trying to
render a logo so that I can bring it into a DTP program such as corel or Quark
and place it over another image. Would like to have a rendering of the logo
with no background so that when you place it whatever you place it over shows
through. I would equate this to the Keying process in video. Also looking to
corrispond with anyone doing rendering work for projects which need to be
imported in to MAC graphics houses.
Thanks Tim

just render your image as a 32-bit targa file. Give it to somebody with a MAC
and Photoshop 3.x they can probably deal with it quite nicely. I supply 3d
Studio rendered .tga files across a network to 2d-artists who use Photoshop
3.01 and Premiere 4.0 quite a lot.
As far as I know, the DTP packages you mention do not support 3DS's alpha
channel (used for transparancy) in a way you describe (someone correct me if
I'm a bit off on this for newer software versions. Maybe the newer software is
supporting Pshop-style masks?). So getting procedural graphic elements to show
through an imported bitmap in one of these programs can be a difficult venture.
However, If you render to a _completely_ white backround, and you are
compositing your DTP elements to be printed on white paper, you should be able
to place your graphic components on a layer above the bitmap, so you can at
least move them right up to, or over your bitmap to at least affect a situation
where the graphic elements and your rendered image live very closely with each
other, if not actually "showing through".

Alan, Hi there! With one of my many dealings with Corel's "so called"
Technical Team they mentioned that Version 5 supported some type of alpha,
giving transparency to certain colors of a imported bitmaps. Hope this may
help.

Hey, Mike, good to see ya on the forum.
Yeah, I had a feeling someone would recognize this limitation soon, but I
wasn't sure. I just checked the CD5 manual but couldn't find anything regarding
this under Alpha, Transparency, or Masks in the index. Maybe it's somewhere
else…

Alan,
While using Corel 4.0 I imported a tiff or targa? and the backgroung was gone
(I think it was a white background), it was instant alpha channel, of course I
could not need it at the time and I could not reproduce it again. While talking
to tech support on another issue I mentioned this alpha thing and they said it
was an unsupported feature and must of had an exact color for this to work, and
they said this would be a feature in realse 5. I don't know how to achive this
but you might try adding a outline or fill color to the bitmap. I would try
this but I am not brave enough to purchase realease 5 yet! I still need to
produce work and don't need any more bugs.
Hay! Can you beleave tha last message I left about that rounding problem that
I had with the WalMart project! I'am glad to be able to share some of my fun
problems I've had with 3DS. See Ya Thursday.
