Or do I need some other source to stripe the tape?>> Im using a VTR that can "stripe" a tape with time code. This is done before animation is recorded on to the tape. SMTE time code is striped onto the audio 2 track. After the sound is added to the audio 1 track the audio 2 track is erased. This means that you dont get stereo sound. The other kind of time code thats also available internally on a lot of VTRs is VITC time code. This code has the advantage of not being on an audio track so you dont have to erase it and stereo is possible. The computer MIDI cards that can read it are more expensive than the SMTE ones. If you are using a VTR that wont stripe the tape (and PAR wont do it ) then fairly inexpensive external time code generator can. Something I can play right on the keyboard pad and also sample with?>> I shopped around a fair ammount and found out that there are good keyboard synthesizers for much less money but they dont do sampling. So you are stuck with the sounds in the synthesizer. Software cannot do effects from the computer without a hardware card. The best synthesizer sound card to plug in to the computer that I found when I was shopping a year or so ago was the Roland Rap 10 ( this is a guess based on memory ) The Rap card had sequencing software included, as I recall, and sampling ability with some sample editing ability. It could also combine midi and wav. (here Im very fuzzy ) The problem is that while its truly amazing for a plug in sound card, none of the components (sequencing software, synth, sample capability ) are comparable to stand alone products. It may be acceptable, however, for a fraction of the cost of a K2000 + mixer + sequencer. Again Ive only learned enough to get the work done. You might try asking the gurus in the MIDIFORUM . For specific product stuff theres MIDIAVEN, MIDIBVEN or MIDICVEN.
