Hi. My question is: If you fix a camera target and then move the camera in a plane parallel to the top viewport, the camera does not roll. However, if the camera is moved in another viewport in its plane, the camera rolls while being moved. How can you keep this from happening? Thanks. Helen Thomas Thomas Dynamics Modeling, Inc.

Helen: There are a couple of things to note about cameras and their behavior. Best to create cameras in the TOP viewport and the rolling of the camera will then be predictable with one major GOTCHA – Quaternions. The short answer is that if you move a camera about the north or south pole you will experience a forced role. To avoid this you can rotate your whole scene (link everything to a dummy object first) by 90 degrees. If you created your camera in a viewport other than the TOP you'll probably experience the roll you mentioned. – Bob Ritger
