I wish you could have been at the Ami Expo. We (Aegis) showed some videos created by folks in the field. One was done using an encoder and a 3/4" deck. It was used by the University of Georgia for their bicentenial documentray. Excellent quality. Then there was some of the stuff we did onto a BetaCam (RGB to Component). Also excellent video quality. BUT these were not the hits of the show. The hits of the show was a video titled "The Adventures of Capt. Blaze Harvey", sort of a short Si-Fi with action from "Top Gun". Really exciting. And the guy did it with VHS!!!! And he's not an animator, and he used "canned" objects from VideoScape 3D. The other hit was Alan Hastings (again) showing off smooth shading/Ham, and Transparency. Remember the DigiView image of the girl with the pencil in her mouth. Picture this image with a smooth green glass, transparent, spinning in front of her. It took about 3 min per frame to generate! This smoothing is going into VideoScape 2.0 which is due out shortly. All good news.
