#AniStudio won't load
14 messages in this thread
Hi, I have just loaded Animator studio on my new P133, and it will not load.
It just stops at the splash screen. I am able to normally close windows, so it
seems that it is just loading the splash screen and stopping. I do not have
any of the fixes (v.1 only) and I have been registered for over a month. I
probably have video for windows 1.1e. Any suggestions?

What Video card/driver version are you using? I had trouble getting past the
same point with ATI mach32 version 2.6 drivers.

Al,
I am using a Diamond Stealth 64 Video Vram, with 4megs vram. The latest
drivers.

several:
make sure you get the upgrade (in other words make sure you have sent in your
registration card)
make sure you are not running this version on win95 or NT
make sure you have at least 100MB FREE hard drive space once you're inside
windows, make sure you have at least 16MB of RAM and a 50MB swap file
configured (at least).
make sure AAS is the last windows 3.x application loaded on your system in case
other applications have overwritten its use of Video for Windows and other
support files. if i remember right, the VFW version AAS ships with is 1.1d, so
if you have 1.1e, no dice. re-install AAS.
let me know what your system configuration is (ram, free HD space, exact
version of windows, other windows apps which use VFW, current swap file size,
graphics card rev and model, and system files which create or manipulate memory
management. i can't help you further till i know what you're running on.
these days, telling someone the processor speed only is like saying "my car
isn't working and it has 4 wheels." waiting on your response.

Dave,
Sorry I didn't include more in the last message, I just didn't want to send
everything unless I knew it would be useful to someone, or thought there might
be some issue specific to the problem I was having.
I am using a Micron P133, 64 megs edo ram, 2 Gig scsi hdd, Diamond stealth 64
Video Vram (with latest drivers), Soundblaster 16. The hard drive has 1.5 gigs
free. I am useing a 16 meg swap file in Windows 3.1, and I use Dos 6.22. I
have optimized the memory using memmaker. I use Adobe Premiere and Elastic
Reality, both use VFW.
After your message, I realized that I did install AAS last, so I guess that it
installed VFW1.1d over the 1.1e that was originally installed. I will reinstall
anyway to see what happens.
I registered about 5 weeks ago, and eagerly await any upgrade.
OK, NOW what can you tell me.(g) Thanks

okay. for starters, pump that swap file up to 100MB.

Dave,
I reinstalled, still no go; then, I open up the other icons in the AAS group
(which worked fine) and retried AAS, well, it opened, I do not know why. After
that time, I tried 2 other times, after a reboot and later, and it seemed to
open and work OK. I guess someting was not initialized or something. So now I
wonder what the schedule is on the new 1.1 version, as I would really like to
run it under NT.
Thanks for your help.

several of the other modules write out initiations which also affect the
Animator module. depending on other softwares loaded which use similar or the
exact same resource libraries, this can happen. i've noted the behavior you've
describe in the logs for future reference. THANKS for telling us about this. it
benefits everyone.

R1.1 is shipping. i will continue to post AAS bulletins every now and again
just in case. if you're registered, theoretically, your copy should be on its
way. take note… this version was written for Win3.x and Win95, not NT. BUT,
so far, it seems stable. if you would like to see a version written for NT
specifically (i know i do, what with 3DS MAX coming down the pike soon), be
sure to make it know. Autodesk is listening! 🙂

OK Dave,
I am definately interested in seeing an NT version, and not 'just' a '95
throwback. So please pass on my vote.

for a second shot (if the first suggestion doesn't make a difference), take out
all memory management (save your CONFUIG.SYS file as something else) and leave
in only HIMEM.SYS statement. see what happens. start with bare bones confi and
work your way up to a more elaborate memory management.

Your Swap file is way too small. I'd go at least 50 MB. I run 100.

You know I had that problem when I installed the 1.1 version on my P133. I
reinstalled after deleting the entire directory structure and it worked. Worth
a try….
Thanks for the suggestion Behymer,
I reinstalled and it didn't work, but after I ran some of the other icons in
the program group and then tried again, it did work and has since. Now I am
waiting on the 1.1 upgrade.
