I need some help. I have an Amiga600 and a Zoom V32bis modem. I am using Autopilot and have it setup as follows – 14400 baud and link speed 19200. I have my serial preference set as follows-rts/cts none 8 bits 1 stop bit. The problem is when I download something the time is much longer than the est. time the Autopilot says it should be for that baud. Ex.-When I tried to download a program that was 93,359 bytes, Autopilot's est. time was 1:04. It took 7:25 to download. What am I doing wrong? Sandra Haggard, 74123,1567

Sandra, your settings are correct. I don't know why you would be getting such slow download times. It is possible that you are calling at a time when the lines are very busy and that would slow things up. Is it possible for you to call at times other than about 7 – 11 PM Central time? Slowness can be caused by a number of things – line noise on your phone, poor connection between your phone and CompuServe, or between the local CompuServe node and Columbus, by overload on the lines because of the number of customers using the line at that time – or using the forum at that time. I know that, since the latest price drop, usage of CompuServe has increased dramatically. It has put a strain on the resources. I've been told that CompuServe is working diligently to get extra phone lines, extra computers, etc., in place, but they have not been able to keep up just recently. They're still working hard on it, though. Things should get better soon. —Betty

I think you are right about me calling a busy node. I never had this problem before CoompuServe's price drop. I'm going to try calling a different node and see what happens. Thanks for the help.-Sandra Haggard

Be sure to complain to FEEDBACK when you have problems with your node. That's the only way to get them fixed. —Betty

Are you sure you're using the correct node? Try typing GO PHONES if you're in doubt. Asha Skimming through the Redwoods on AutoPilot

Thanks for answering my call for help. I checked the node. I'm on the right one. Betty seems to think I'm calling a very busy node. She might be right. Because I get alot of BUSY messages. I think I'm going to try a different node to see if I can get one that isn't so busy. Thanks again.-Sandra
