I downloaded some Jps and UUe from a newsgroup. How can I view them? Are there
programs that will allow me to reorginze the data in a readible way?
I have Jpe and Gif wiewers but the suff from the news group just won't work.
If I take a Gif and load it and save it with my word proscessor, can I
reconstruct the picture from the saved ASCII file?

No, that won't work at all. You should be able to view GIFs with a good
viewer program, I'd suggest ViewTek, or Superview, both of which are here in
our libraries (search using the word viewer, or Viewtek or Superview). If
you're running an ECS or OCS machine without a graphics board, you probably
won't see it in anything higher than HAM, but you should be able to see it.

I think I will upload my Viewtech library I have viewere for nearly every
graphics board.
I think everyone here is missing the point. Joe may have not converted the
uuencoded JPG ASCII file or if he did, does not have all the parts of the file.
Some JPG's are split and loaded into 2 or more separate files and indicated in
the description as (1/3), next file as (2/3) , and next as (3/3). They could be
put together in a word processer as Joe said or put together with the CLI
command join name1 name2 name3 newname. The start of the file has just before
the actual encoded stuff (begin filename.jpg)
If you don't see this, you may be in the middle or end of the picture. The END
of the file always says (end) without the brakets. The best way to decode these
files is with UUxT from the ARCHIVERS/CRUNCHERS library. You can put the 3
files in at once and it will join and decode them into the JPG and THEN can be
viewed with VIEWTEK.

Thanks, it is rather difficult. I am getting files that are converted but they
are corrupted and dont seem to work with my viewtech program.
PPShow is really good stuff. Fast and reliable, but not the best quality
(better quality would make it slower I think)
Try to check the lengths of both uuencoded and decoded (.jpg, .gif, whatever)
Normally uuencoded files are 30% aprox. bigger than the original binary file.
Try it with different files, because files sometimes are corrupted B-(
And check that the UUfile is complete. (All parts if in parts)

PPShow is for showing (or viewing or watever) the graphic files. It doesn't
UUdecode them.
Could you explain a bit further why do you say >the files always seem to be

I try to use UUput and I get generaly Gpg out excepth they never seep to work
with any viewing program. The best I get is my viewtech menu disapearing for
about 2 minutes and I don't get a picture. I will keeptrying different things.

I think it's the best thing to do. Try another uudecoder. Or maybe the problem
is with viewtech settings. But I'm not an expert on that. It works for me.

I like UUxT better myself for en/decoding files.

Internet EMail (and UseNet) can't handle binary files (like JPG's). Therefore
the files you received have been converted to some sort of ASCII before they
where sent. This conversion is called UUencoding.
If you want to you use those files you'll have to convert them back from
ASCII-format to binary-format (UUDecoding). There are a number of utilities
available to do that. I use UUxt myself but if you do a search with the keyword
'UU', I'm sure U will find a bunch of them.

Did you mean .JPG? For that, a JPG viewer should do the trick.
For the UUe files, I think you'll first have to decode them with UUDECODE.
You'll find it in our Archivers library, #14. After decoding them, look to see
whether they were first packed with .LHA or something, or whether you can just
view them with a viewer.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Jps". What type of file is this?
You need a uudecoder for the UUe files. You can find several here,
UUINOUT1.LHA, UUXT.LHA or UUCODE.LHA should all work fine. I use (and have
registered) Uuxt.
