Hello, I am trying to use AutoPilot to put a message in the Networking area of
AmigaUser Forum. Who is using AmiTCP, with Mosaic, to browse the WWW via
CompuServe? I have this, plus PPP decrunched in my iNTERiNSTALL directory and
when I click startnet, or type it from cli, everything works, including the CIS
connect, the AmiTCP screen comes on, with the small off ghosted at the bottom,
and when it comes on, I get the message in the top left requester that "AmiTCP
Failed". What am I doing wrong? Do I need another file or something? Any
help will be appreciated.
I have AutoPilot up and running after about 10 days of effort, and will try to
send this message to "All" in the AmigaUser Forum for a whole lot of replys, I
hope. It may, however end up in Betty Clay's CompuServe Mail, and if so,
Betty, would you please send it on its way? Thanks a lot.
Got my screen set to a pretty blue (Windows Blue), with brown trim, black
print, yellow script at the top, and ochre cursor, and almost no flicker. Now
its too bad I can't load some iff graphics, Final Writer Style, with a Music X
sound tract to play through a Miracle keyboard. It sure beats DOS and the C:
propt, I guess.

Congrats on getting AutoPilot up and running. Your message made it to the
right place.
I am using the WWW via AmiTCP and CIS. Did you install AmiTCP in it's own
directory? OR did you install it into the Interinstall Directory?
It sound like you have it logging on ok, but when AmiTCP tries to make the
slip connection, it's looking for its files in the AmiTCP: dir which is not
assigned.
Try doing this the following. Edit you user-startup file in your S: dir. At
the end of the file insert this line.
assign AmiTCP: DH#:interinstall (DH#: being where ever the interinstall dir
is. I.E. DH0: or DH1:)
You need to give it the complete path to the files it is looking for. So, if
your interinstall dir. is in "DH2:comm/interinstall", you will need to assign
it to DH2:comm/interinstall
I hate to tell you to start all over again if this is the only problem you are
having. The assign should do the trick.

You only get a short amount of time to click on the OK button at the AMItcp
guilt screen before this message comes up. So as soon as the OK button
unghosts (is that a word?) click on it and see if your HD starts clicking away.
If we found the problem you should get a window in the corner of your screen
saying complete. This would mean you and CIS have become one and you can start
up some sort of browser (Amosaic,Thor,Alynx and so on).

I also am using AmiTCP and AMosaic, and occasionally have run into the problem
you describe. I have no idea what causes it (one of the more technically
minded on the forum should be able to say) but whenever it happens to me, I
simply power my Amiga down (normally)…wait about 30-60 seconds, and then
re-boot everything. This usually clears up the problem (at least for me,
anyhow).

Congrats! Your message made it to the right place! There is no need to
type in AmigaUserForum in your TO: field (though, as you see, it worked). I
know it's hard to get used to a new program sometimes, but you're well on your
way! <g>
