I would welcome a safer file system than ffs, personally. With FFS I can just
about generate a disabling hangup with the scsi activity light on by executing
any one of a number of programs with bugs in them, and guarantee that when I
boot I will have to power off the computer to get back on. Which is tantamont
to a guarantee the partition is invalid and may need to be restored or a long
wait for Disksalve to run. On my Message database it may be hours of waiting.
How does AFS perform with program crashes and power outages?

Then you have a hardware problem or a driver problem. A different filesystem
would not likely affect it.
Regarding validation, though, see the published reviews that have come out in
the Sept/Oct UK mags. They tried rebooting, powering down and disconnecting
SCSI cables during writes. They couldn't invalidate the drive or cause any
corruption or loss (other than loss of the file being written at the time).

PFMJI, I use AFS for 4 weeks now, and i am verry happy with it.
When programs crashes or there occure power outages, while you was writing to
an AFS partition nothing bad happens, the partition allways remains validated,
of course the file you was writing at the moment of the crash will be lost,
but…. there is somthing very interesting with AFS, it allways 'remember' the
last 30 deleted or overwrited files in a special directory ":DELDIR" so you can
reuse the latest non corrupt version of a file. This is because AFS never
overwrite files on their fisical location, it creates a new file in a different
fisical location on your HD and teh old one comes then in the ":.DELDIR"….
Interesting or not…???
