#Opalvision

Weel, I hate to ask this question, because I don't think I want to read the
answer. What happened to Centaur and Opalvision? Their bulletin board shut down
several weeks ago and now that same number is being auto-answered by some other
computer company. BP.

I'm not completely sure what's going on with Centaur. I doubt the BBS will
go back up, but obviously if it ever does, it'll be at another number. I talked
to John Seivers a bit over a month ago (shortly after the BBS went down) and he
said that there would be an upgrade to OpalPaint released to Aminet in around a
month or two. He said that the production of the Video Processor was dependant
on what happened with Amiga Tech and the Amiga, and that they should go into
production between 4-12 weeks after machines are on the shelves if all goes
well.
Personally, the feeling I got was not good, which makes me a bit upset.
OpalPaint is the best paint program I've ever seen (and I've seen some great
ones on other platforms) and I'd really hate to see it unsupported. Well,
we've had a miracle or two happen before, maybe another one can help Centaur!

Thanks for the update Ahsa. I guess Centaur will not make enough of a profit
on existing customers with the video processor, otherwise they wouldn't wait to
see what happens in the market.
But I can't help but think that there are a whole lot of existing customers
worldwide that would still want the board. I guess if you take into account the
discount coupons and the fact that they are paying for the charge to ship your
board back to be mated with the processor, the profit must be too low.
So they're waiting, and if the market doesn't look good to them, then what?
Do they go belly up, chapter 11? I know this sounds crazy, but if they told me
how much they really had to charge me to accomplish the task, I would probably
pay it, despite everything that has happened. I invested in the Opalvision
board, the paint program is fantastic, and my board wants to mate with
something (it's a personal problem :>) ). BP.

I don't know what happens if they decide that the market isn't looking good
enough for them. I'm sure there are many people, like you, that are really
pulling for them to pull through and produce those modules. Unfortunately, I
only got to talk to John Seivers once. It took three days to get that far (I
bent the ear of one of the receptionists). If you want, try calling them and
talking to them yourself. But I think the only thing we can really do now, is
wait and hope for the best.
P.S. Hope your board gets its way…:)

Asha, sorry for spelling your name wrong. I guess I shouldn't proof read my
messages after I already posted them. BP.
