I'm in the process of purchasing a VLAB-M system. I'm very impressed at how popular this product has become. I would like to know if is advisable to upgrade from workbench 2.1 to 3.1 ?

Bryan, If you plan to purchase the VLAB-M system you may not forget you wil need a fast scsi controller, y hope you are using a A3000 with 2.1, upgrade to 2.1 is not necesary vor the Movieshop software but i higly recommend it !! If you use a A2000 then you first have to look for a fast SCSI controller first !! Macrosystem is developping a 060 with SCSI interface for the A2000 for use with VLAB-M. But perhaps you could use the Wildfire060 ?? Regards, Juan From Belgium with Autopilot

<<I would like to know if is advisable to upgrade from workbench 2.1 to 3.1 ?>> Most definitely! I assume you have a 2000 or a 3000 since you have 2.1. 3.1 supports 24 bit graphic boards, allowing you to have AGA emulation on the Workbench. There's also a lot of other improvements that warrant the upgrade. It's like breathing new life into your Amiga; you'll love it! Weeks away from a DKB Wildfire 68060/50. Can't wait! Bryan, The Vlab-Ms s/w Movieshop is starting to progress in ways that will only work on WB 3.xx systems I think. Of coarse theres work arounds for early OS revs. I'd say go for it, may be as good a time as any. :^) Later, ….John

Why is it worth the money? I was told that the only difference was the internet capablities it has. Have is been misinformed?

Compared to OS3.0 there are some internal optimizations like faster graphics routines. The support of the older ECS chip set (OS 3.0 was intended only for AGA Amigas), a (buggy) CD-Filesystem and something I have forgotten at this moment. The other advantage is that of some application features which can only be achieved under 3.0 or 3.1 like the features of third party graphics boards. Remember: there is _NO_ RTG implemented yet. Most gfx boards work flawlessly but they cannot use RTG because it doesn't exist! IMHO is it worth to upgrade from 2.1 to 3.1. Upgrading from 3.0 to 3.1 doesn't give significant advantages. regards, Dirk Taggesell
