This is true, Bryan. Although I don't have VLM, my local dealer said if I
wanted to get one that the Magnum 040/33 by CSA was the only board fast enough
to handle VLM. Whenever Macrosystem comes out with the 060, it too will be
fast enough—faster, actually.
Waiting till Motorola decides to release that 68060.

Yes, I'm getting the Magnum 040 with the SCSI 11 controller. Hopefully this
will be fast enough. I was going to bypass workbench 3.1 for my Amiga 2000,
however I think now that I'll purchase it. Does 3.1 have a more MAC-LIKE
desktop ? You mentioned emplant, can the amiga run mac applications with this
item ? Have you ever read any material comparing VLAB-M to other platform's
DTV methods such as Radius Videovision or Targa 2000. I would like to know
which one is better, even though I've already committed myself to the VLAB-M.

Hmmm, I thought it was the other way around. <G> If you mean putting color
pics in the background, then yes. IMHO, the Workbench is still better than the
MacOS. You can view files by icon, name, (no small icon), or whatever. I
don't know of a way to do 'aliases' on the Amiga, but 3.1 does have a LEAVE OUT
and PUT AWAY function.

About 95% of the programs work on Emplant. Photoshop, 7.5.1 OS, Buried In
Time, Daedalus Encounter, Rebel Assault, MacCIM, CompuServe Mac CD, Star
Trek:Tech Manual, Myst, and a whole lot more work on Emplant as if it was a
real Mac. There's 8 bit stereo sound that really doesn't sound all that bad,
and the Emplant Deluxe has Mac serial and parallel ports for printers, modems,
etc. There's even an internal and external SCSI interface for CD-ROM drives,
etc. I've been really impressed with Emplant. What's even nicer, is when you
upgrade your Amiga processor the Mac side is also upgraded. 030=MacII,
040=Quadra, 060=PowerMac with 1/2 speed of the FPU. You can even transfer files
back and forth from Amiga-Mac, Mac-Amiga.

Never heard of those others; just the Toaster Flyer. I'll probably get the
Flyer for my system, but I haven't ruled VLAB out as an alternative.

Did you get it yet? I'd wait for the 060's. They're not much more, and
it'll be worth the wait. The speed increase is a quantum leap from the 040,
and will be a much better solution for your VLAB.

How about a one line script to start the app and IconX ?
Personally I prefer to use the Tools menu (using ToolManager) or also using
ToolManager you could make a Dock object (even for multiple aliases).

You can make aliases with the shell command "makelink". There's also a little
freely distributable programm called WBLink to make links in a much more easier
way.
But unlike under Mac OS or OS/2 there is no official way to do Links across
drives. You can make such links and they work most of the time but they are not
officially announced.
