#Star Wars
6 messages in this thread
I am beginning post on a project in which the customer would like a roll title,
like the beginning title of Star Wars (scrolling off into the distance). Does
anyone know what the best procedure for creating a roll of this type would be?
I have 3DS-R4, but no special IPAS stuff. Any suggestions are welcome, as this
project must be completed and duped by October 27th (less than two weeks)

Use Animator Studio from Autodesk. It's got a superb titler that will let you
do exactly what you're searching for.

Thanks, I will check into it ASAP!
Brad,
you could create geometry in 3ds and render it moving past a camera (or camera
moving backwards over it). Use depth-cue or fog, or lighting to have the text
disappear into the distance. If you use fog and turn off "fog background" then
you can render the text against any background image or sequence of images.
I just uploaded a thread file on text in 3ds. It contains various threads
dealing with text, including a description of how Yost Group did the same thing
as you are trying to do. The file should be available in Lib3 in a day or so.
File name in TEXT.ZIP.

I remember a while back Gary Yost explained just how they did that in the intro
the the 94 siggraph reel. Basically, create your text in a package like
Photoshop. Then map that onto a large rectangle which you fly past your camera.
Use distance cueing and off it goes into nothingness. It's simple really. You
just need to use a high enough res text map for it to look perfect. Good luck.
