#3DS and WIN NT

I just purchased an Xi P100 NTOWER DP dual pentium 100mhz graphics
station. It comes loaded with windows NT with a dual boot up option, this is
still all greek to me, but now I am forced to learn. My question is can I
render and still have access to my machine? I was told that by having a dual
cpu system it would allow 3ds 4 to render on one cpu while I worked on the
other. I have also heard this is imposibe until 3d max comes out, I have no
clue to what I have and what i can do. All I do know is that with software and
system I spent well over $12,000 and I get sick thinking about the fact that
this wont be able to do what I am after.

Joe,
I'd say you've got yourself a real nice system that you won't be able to take
full advantage of for rendering until MAX is released. With the dual boot
option you will be able to run 3DS in DOS but you won't be able to use the
second processor. Under NT programs like Photoshop should fly but 3DS for DOS
won't work.
Be patient. When MAX is ready you'll have a nice machine right away.

Until 3DS MAX comes out with its multi-threaded capabilities you will be stuck
in DOS which is not a multi tasking environment. Until then you are S.O.L. The
good news is that it's due out around the end of the year. That will give you a
couple months to learn.

Sorry to jump in but the official word from Autodesk is that MAX will ship
"this winter". So, this could be as late as March 21, 1996. Even though you
can't spell XMAS without MAX I didn't want any rumors to start or give anyone
false hopes on this product shipping so soon. MAX by Easter is a safer bet.

Only announced release date for MAX is "end of winter" which is not the same as
end of year.
