FLC to 8-bit AVI

I am trying to convert 640×480 FLCs to 8 bit AVI files. I am doing this so that I can play them in Power Point using the Media Player (instead off AAPlay). I am totally overwhelmed by the user interface in Animator Studio vs. the good ol' Animator Pro. All of my efforts to date have resulted in garbaged AVI files (wrong colors, ghost images, etc). I assume that eventually I will stumble onto the right combination of compression, pallate, etc. settings to get a clean 8 bit AVI file but if anyone out there knows how to do this, I would be extremely grateful for some help. Now when you save a file as an AVI file, the Microsoft RLE codec will be used. -dave

Dave, I had been using the MS RLE compression. Upon further experimentation, I discovered that the converted AVI file plays fine in the Animator Studio player but not in the Windows Media player–typically all black with a few colored spots showing through. The original FLC plays fine in both cases. Any idea what causes this problem ?

Use SoundLab to delete any channels other than video (and maybe audio) (ie: the selection channel, mask channel, alpha channel). The other streams are conflicting during playback with the video channel.

Hi Jim, I think you can convert your FLC file using Microsoft Video for Windows 1.1 Dev. Kit. The Utility: VidEdit allows you Open Autodesk Animation file and save as AVI. I have used it. The conversion work fine. Good luck, Lorenzo.
