AmiTCP "still active"?

What to do (?)…if AmiTCP failed at the startup I can't start again because
I'm told AmiTCP is already active. I then have to warm boot to use it. Is there
some thing better that will wrk <G>?

If something goes wrong with the dialscript, the startnet-script continues and
loads AmiTCP anyway. So, before making another connection-attempt, you'll have
to stop AmiTCP with the stopnet-script.

Thanks, but I did that, there is no other way to stop the action & go offline
using INST151's install (except turn off the modem).

Don't Stopnet or Offline PPP0 work? If they don't, Stopnet also terminates
AmiTCP, so Startnet wouldn't give the 'AmiTCP already active'-message.

I haven't had the problem in a few days since I rarely use the NET (I find it a
basic bore except for a few specific thing I need, but I can assure you that
the Stopnet Icon leaves AmiTCP still active, when I try to start again. That's
why I've posted this question. I shall try to remember to use snoopdos when I
go on.

Aha, it's an icon. Maybe that's the problem. Make sure the stopnet-script has
the s-bit set and you have IconX in your C:-directory. Also, the
'Amitcp:bin'-directory has to be in your search-path.
Try this: open a shell-window, cd to 'Amitcp:bin' and type 'execute stopnet'.
If this works, and the icon doesn't, one of the above things is probably the
cause.

The s-bit is set, paths & assigns are all correct. This is set up by IINST151.
Everything works beautifully—when it works <G>. It just stays active if it
fails for some reason before I get on, like the CI$' NET access being
overloaded.
See Andre Page's post to me…it happens to him also so it is problem that may
get fixed. A way to just redial is the answer. (Chris are you listening?…I
haven't forgotten, just waiting for check book to catch up with my wants)

I'm afraid I ran out of suggestions. Or maybe one more, is ARexx loaded
somewhere in your startup? Stopnet needs it.

I know you're trying to be helpful, but yes I am correctly installed & Arexx is
in my startup…I'm sure it's a small, til now unknown bug since Andre Page
has the same problem. I can live with it, just a pain in the butt sometimes
;^}.
At least I can get on & use the NET which is more than some here can do. It
isn't easy!

I've noticed that too. I think we just need a way to re-dial only, while AmiTCP
is still running? I don't mind having AmiTCP still running, because I am
working on some web pages locally after hanging up. I do mind having to reboot
to redial.

Ah Ha! So I'm not crazy <VBG>, or as my best friend says "you're crazy, never
the less"…
Well, I gues that's a small price to pay for not suffering trying to install by
myself…which I'm about to do with the commerical version.

I just looked at the script that the "stopnet" icon calls…
I was using an OLD one! (OOOPS!) How'd that happen?
Open your stopnet script in your favorite text editor and check it for the
line: -> echo "Stopnet for iNTERiNSTALL 1.51*n" <- (should be the 4th line)
THAT is the CORRECT version of the stopnet script. It WORKS! It even ASKs if
you want to shut down AmiTCP.

Than the mystery deepens! My stopnet file is the correct one.
What happens (I think, because who remembers what's happening when you doesn't
known something's wrong!!) is that startnet fails, I then hit the stopnet icon,
& I THINK answer Y to shut down drill. I will definitely remember what I do
next time! All I do know is after that, when I try to start again I get the
message that AmiTCP is active & if I want to use it I have to reboot. Normal
shut downs are fine.

I had a problem using Stopnet (under InterCIS v1.11) last night after using
AMosaic. First time I ever had to turn off the modem. But tonight after a
<lengthy> session using NCFTP, Stopnet worked just fine. Does Stopnet work at
all for you?

Yes it works all the time, even if Amosiac locks up. It even works when AmiTCP
fails on startup, BUT I can't restart because I'm told AmiTCP is active, so I
have to reboot. in other words for some reason AmiTCP doesn't get closed.
