To reply to yours of 15 Oct., yes NCom does appear to have the following items
but I have not used any of them so far.
ZModem filename xprzmodem bytes 20172
CompuserveB xprquickb 12676
Kermit xprkermit 22016
BModemPlus xprbplus 19004
???? xprascii 12116
Also YModem,YModem-batch and YModemG are on the selection screen but
there is no filename or byte count shown for these so perhaps these do not
operate.
I also have an evaluation read demo of JRCom which only has ZModem,
filename xprzmodem, byte count 22856. As you see this is a different count to
the NCom one so I surmise that it is not interchangeable.
Meanwhile I have been to the local HQ of Maestro to get more
understanding of how to use it and in the process it was discovered that it had
the wrong chip in it. So I will try Xmodem once more this time on the 14400
baud line and see what happens. If this fails, I shall have to review the docs
of NCom to determine which of the other protocols will best serve the purpose.
I will advise progress as it happens.c

For CompuServe, PLEASE do not use Xmodem!! Use the xprquickb or xprbplus or
the CompuServeB instead. Both will work much better. Xmodem is the oldest,
slowest, and buggiest of all the protocols you might select. YModem or Kermit
will work better than xmodem, by far. CompuServe does not support ZModem, but
it supports all of the B protocols, ymodem, and Kermit. If you use YModem, use
the plain one – not YModem G or YModem batch.

PMJI, but, why don't CIS just delete the xmodem protocol and add the zmodem
protocol to their menus?

They don't delete it because some older term programs and some of the simpler
ones simply don't offer anything except XModem. I had one on my newest
computer that had only the one protocol! And if you have only that one, it
will still enable you to download something better.
I do wish they had ZModem. I like it.

I whinged about the lack of Z Modem, I got a nice polite reply, the practical
upshot of which was –
'Get lost'
I did (on their advice) download the B+ XPR but it crashed my system, although
I was using a rather old version of NComm (1.921) even so, I thought it should
work.
Now I'm using Autopilot (which uses the Compuserve B protocol anyway) and I'm
quite happy with that.
