"Also, is there any way to get SS to use the same hd partition as my Emplant? I select DH1 in the volume chooser, but it just tells me that it's not a DOS disk." Yes you can Paul, I used the Emplant partition for a few weeks with ShapeShifter until I removed the Emplant board. What you need to use is the Emplant's "MAC_HDSetup" program. This is the information that I got on my ShapeShifter partition: Device: DHN Surfaces: 8 LoCyl: 590 HiCyl: 4895 Blocks Per Track: 63 Mac Boot Block: 297360 Drive Type: AmigaHD w/Mac Data Bootable Partition And this is what is set up for DeviceDisk 1 in ShapeShifter: scsi.device Unit: 0 First Sector: 297360 (The Mac Boot Block in the above information) Number of Sectors: 2170224 (see below for details) Maximum transfer size: 130560 (MaxTrans for a Amiga IDE device) To get the Number of Sectors for ShapeShifters devicedisk: ((HiCyl – LowCyl)+1) x Surfaces x BlocksPerTrack So ((4895 – 590) + 1) x 8 x 63 4306 x 8 = 34448 x 63 = 2170224 and there you have it! The Maximum transfer size is just the MaxTransfer setting for that particular partition and you can get it by using HDToolBox to find out what it is currently set at. For my IDE drive it is set for $1FE00 so in decimal that works out to 130560. Hope this helps you and other Emplant users that want to take ShapeShifter for a spin but don't want to start from scratch. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. // John (Warp 4040 & ShapeShifter Quadra 840) \X/ jgager@BMI.NET

John- Thanks! One puzzling thing, though. Jim Drew told me that SS would trash Emplant's Mac partition due to differing PROM setups. I take it this isn't correct? Mr. Zombie

"Thanks! One puzzling thing, though. Jim Drew told me that SS would trash Emplant's Mac partition due to differing PROM setups. I take it this isn't correct?" The only problem I saw after using ShapeShifter on the Emplant's partition was that my monitor color settings would be reversed. If I set up ShapeShifter for 256 color, it would be greyscale when using the Emplant, and vice versa. Now keep in mind that I was using the Emplant's partition when ShapeShifter first came out so it may have changed since then. Just to be safe, it wouldn't hurt to back up your Emplant partition, and then start over with a SS partition. I wouldn't want you to blame me for trashing your MAC <g>. // John (Warp 4040 & ShapeShifter Quadra 840) \X/ jgager@BMI.NET

John- Sadly, this method did not work. SS got part way through booting off my Emplant partition, and then locked up. I have Symbion installed, which shows all extensions etc. that are loaded as they are loaded, with their memory usage (I also tried with everything except bare system stuff disabled) and SS stopped booting early in the progress indicatory, while the bar was still way over to the left. Symbiont showed the Suitcase, but nothing after it, and while the mousepointer would move around, nothing else happened, and Alt-lShift-Ctrl-Escape didn't quit. LocalTalk is what comes right after Suitcase, but I didn't see anywhere to disable this. Any ideas? Mr. Zombie
