Hello, I'm trying to Net Render on my school computers in a CAD class. They are running Netware 3.12 and the majority of them are 386-40's with 4Mb of RAM and 40 Mb hard drives. I installed SLAVE-RENDER configuration to them and the have about 8-10 Mb free on HDD. When I run 3ds4 on them (with the 3DSNET.SET set to slave) they display the 3D-EDITOR screen, but never get to the familiar "MACHINE IN SLAVE MODE PRESS ESC TO CANCEL". The keyboard doesn't lock up but the CPU freezes. Are these dinosaurs just too far gone or am I doing something Wrong. PS I already got this to work on 486's with Lantastic in a different situation. Any feedback would be appreciated Thanks, JIM

James: 4 MB of RAM is no doubt your problem. For what I do 32MB is a practical minimum. However, I have gotten 3DS to function on 8MB on a laptop but I did not use any bitmapped materials or cast any shadows. With so little RAM your machines would swap almost immediately to the hard disks if you got them rendering at all. You've mentioned that they only have 8-10 MB free hard disk space which is very little also. As soon as this swap space is used up your machines will hang. If you have any machines available that have more RAM and disk space you can get a good idea of the resources you will need on your slaves by checking the stats at the bottom of the render screen. The stats will tell you the amount of RAM used and the amount of swap space used as well. – Bob Ritger

James, Sorry to tell you, but 4 megs o' RAM just won't cut it. With that little HD space available for swap files, 16 megs would be a realistic minimum. SCL
