The aspect ratio for the PAR is .85, because 640 divided by 752 = .85. So, the aspect ratio for the PVR should be 640 divided by 720 = .89. When I render a sphere at 720 x 480 x .89 and view it on the TV through the PVR, it looks a bit squashed. When I render the sphere at aspect 1.0, it looks good shown on the TV through the PVR. The manuals and tech support say the aspect ratio should be .89 (they say .9, actually), so why does my stuff look better at 1.0?

Hi, Just from your message we created a sphere and on the top and one side we placed square boxes. The Sphere took up about 2/3's of the screen. At .9 the video looks a little bit squashed. At 1.0 it was way to long.. I use a Sony 13" monitor I think its a PVW1390. The monitor may be a little out of adjustment. This is the same thing I believe is going on with your video. It has to be out of adjustment.. We were going to check the output on several other monitors to see if the effect it any different but havent found the time yet.. I suggest you do the same. Bob..

Have you actually looked at a PAR displayed sphere rendered to 752X480 at 0.851 AR on your monitor? While I don't have a PVR, I doubt it has the option of 640×480 output which is 1.0 AR. It would seem likely that your monitor is out of calibration. I do service work here for TV production companies and you'd think these places would have calibrated equipment. Many do not. Even my Sony 1344Q was out of calibration when I bought it. I had to do a complete alignment after it arrived. Two of the adjustments I had to make was height and vertical linearity.
