#AMosaic/AmiSTP
11 messages in this thread
Thanks for the help on getting AmiTCP up. I discovered that I have toclick on
the "ON" button as soon as it is "deghosted"…why not, it sounds like a good
word, James, or "unghosted", you were right on that. Steve, I do have AmiTCP
in its own directory, by trial and error, but that's good advice. Now I believe
that I have to figure out how to get AmiTCP to run with AMosaic.
I have to find the text reader for the AMosaic doc.files as it appears that it
forms part of a complete package, which might help explain all. It is difficult
to read about AMosaic as I am doing, pulling eaxh individual doc. file up in
WordPerfect, with all the <H1><IMG SRC="amlogsmall.gif" etc. comments
interspersed, althoug I"m sure it mmakes sense with a text reader.
I probably need a gif.file-viewer, and a sound.player, and may be able to
acquire them through "ftp://max.physics.sunysb.edu/pub/amosaic/support" when I
can navigate the internet, but for now, is anysuch stuff available on CIS?
Thanks for the help. I hope this message gets threw. (throne?)
Running AutoPilot with 3 of 8 cylinders running, also a collector of SAEs.
(Studebakers, Amigas, and Exaktas). And like them, trying to stay ahead of the
Pack.

Jack,

Right you are. AMosaic docs are readable using AMosaic. However, after you
unpack the archive there should be a file called README.install. As long as
you have a registered version of Magic User Interface (MUI – not Magic
Workbench) and WorkBench 3.0 or 3.1 you shouldn't have too much trouble.
<through"ftp://max.physics.sunysb.edu/pub/amosaic/support" when I can navigate
the internet>
If you have AmiTCP running you can use "ncftp" to get files. It's fairly easy
to use. In a shell, CD to the directory where you want the files to go then
type "ncftp <name of poor overworked university computer with all the
goodies.edu>" and wait for a message telling you that your actions are being
logged.
Type the word "binary" sometime before you start downloading anything other
than a text file. To get to the directory you want, type "cd /<glom.city or
wherever you want to go>. To see where you are, type "pwd" and if you dont
like that dir go up a level by typing "cdup" and see what's there. You can
take a quick look-see by typing "ls" or examine more closely by typing "ls -l".
I recommend going to your destination one / level at a time and ls'ing around.
You may see some /dirs which catch your interest.
Once you find a file you want, type "get <name.of.file>" hit <Enter> and wait.
If you want more than one file from the same /dir, you can use "*" as a wild
card and "mget" all the files which match. But the letters and chars you DO
use must match exactly – UPPER and lower case are different. When you are
done, type "quit" and wait until you see that you are done to issue the
"stopnet" command in the Amiga shell or go to another net application (Gopher,
ferinstance – it's even easier than ncftp, but ncftp seems to be the fastest
for getting those files).

Lepido,
Grapevine, Thor and Elm are all here. Some are in library 5
(Telecommunications) some in library 4 (networking). You can download them as
AmigaElm.lha (Elm version 7.1) Thor.lha (version 2) and grapevin.lha.

what do you know abiut the internet amifa kit being sold by softwarehut in the
us.ed. 4 of amiga computing? i'll think i'll have to get that cause the pd
software is annoying to use plus i'll get a primted manual too…
Lepido,
<what do you know abiut the internet amifa kit being sold by softwarehut in the
us.ed. 4 of amiga computing?>
I haven't gotten issue 4 of the US edition of Amiga Computing. Do you
subsribe? Did you subsribe directly or is this an Amiga World replacement?
I also haven't heard anything at all about any internet amiga kit. Are you
sure it's not just some combination of all the commercial (shareware) software
with printed manuals?
If you get it, please post and tell us what you think about it!

these shareware software software only $29.00
Lepido,
<it's the amigaworld replacement…. it's advertised in the software

Well, I haven't gotten any new issues from Amiga Computing for almost two
months now, and the ones I HAVE gotten are several months old. Doesn't make me
want to persue it much. I have written to them about this situation but I
don't expect much of anything in return mail.
<it includes all the necessary software forgetting online to the internet in 8

So are you going to get it? If you do, please tell us how it worked for
you.

Lepido,
Re: <my stupid modem does not work with the dial script from intercis>
What kind of modem and how do have its initialize script set? I had problems
with my Supra until I d'loaded a file from here <SupraFaxSetup.txt> which
described the correct settings. Also, <Intercis> has been replaced by
<iinst151.lha> by the same author. Try those and see if they help you. Good
luck.

<< have to find the text reader for the AMosaic doc.files as it appears that it

This whole thing kinda works a piece at a time. Someone else here called it
piece meal. Once you get the AmiTCP & PPP piece in place (which are the big
pieces), you just keep adding and updating pieces.
A double click on the AMosaic Icon will start your WWW browser program. (wait
for the complete window) Hint #2: You can capture HTML docs (and FTPed files)
by selecting the load to local disk option from one of the pull down menus of
AMosaic. Hint #3: These docs can be read off line simply by starting AmiTCP.
Have the AmiTCP directory "show all files" and double click on AmiTCP, from
there you will get the guilt screen and the whole works without being online
(saves Bucks!!). Now start AMosaic and select "Open Local". Find the file you
captured online and study it wilst shouting at the children and looking at all
the different ways Bears tried to loose to a (supposed) cakewalk opponent.
Anything but open Wordperfect.
Sorry I lost myself.

I might suggest http://webcrawler.com/ great search tool, AOL does the
maintainence (sp). Course you need to update your AMosaic to a version which
supports forms.
