#File downloads
5 messages in this thread
I am currently able to use a PC with WINCIM and SpryMosiac to access
compuserve. I own an unexpanded Amiga 1200. I soon will not have the use of the
PC and have been looking for a similar set up for my AMIGA. I have been trying
to download compressed files i.e. LIB4.lha with my PC and then using the cross
dos on my amiga, decompressing them with Directory Opus. Directory Opus keeps
failing to decompress saying Lha not recognised. Without logging on to
compuserve with my amiga and downloading direct to the amiga is there anyway I
can decompress the files that I have in Lha format on my PC.
Hope Someone can Help.

Yes it is, but your peecee will not be able to handle amiga file names, which
are not necessarily eight.three characters. For example, all .info files.
You need to decompress .lha files with lha, which should be in your c
directory.

John,
Get LHA138.RUN from Library 14 of AmigaUser, unpack it on your Amiga, and put
LHA in your c: directory. I think Directory Opus can find it there and make it
available to you. LHA138.RUN is archived, too, but is self-dissolving. Put it
in RAM:, CD to RAM: and type: LHA138.RUN
After the activity stops, COPY LHA C:
and LHA will be ready to use. There will be a doc file too, and you should
put that on a floppy or other convenient place.
You should have no problem downloading with the PC and using CrossDOS if you
get LHA running. It would be possible to unpack them on the PC, using LHA for
that machine. I think it is LHA238.??? and is in IBMCOM forum. But it would
probably be easier to just get it for your Amiga.

Do you have LHA in your C: directory on your Amiga?

There is a version of LHA for PC's (though I don't know where you can find
it, I suggest searching in the PC areas using LHA as a keyword). However, a lot
of Amiga files have longer file names then are usable on the PC. In your case
above (LIB4.LHA) it shouldn't make any difference. Hope this helps.
