#PAINT PROGRAM

Hello, Greg, I have been using CoCo for over two years and I still see a bright
future of upgrades and support for that product. I don't think there is
anything on the market remotely like the Amiga, but I am writing to you now on
a CoCo, and my trusty, virtually maintenance-free computer is awfully hard to
beat. With possible 6809 improvements on the horizon (improved bank-switching,
24-bit bus, etc.), I would sure hate to see all the CoCo users fall by the
wayside, but then again, I don't expect to see it. I plan to use both
extensively and watch them grow! Hope you folks in Phoenix do the same! Thanks
for taking time out to drop a line. Donald Weed

The general feeling in PHX amoung the MOTOROLA users is that the days of the
COCO are numbered. Motorola designed the machine, and all the following mods
came out of one of the local delevopment areas in the plant where I work. R.S.
has not done much lately with the COCO. They asked for a 512ST copy about 6-8
months ago, then dropped out. As my source says, "Lots of fire drills, but no
fire." The posibilities of a 68K COCO are there, but the chances of a system
with the RMS graphic system are very small. R.S. seems to be involved in
MS-DOS/INTEL machines now.
– One of the members of the team I mentioned (of developers) bought his AMIGA
last friday. I use a DESKPRO and an AT full-time at work. The IBM is BORING,
the COMPAQ is ho-hum but the AMIGA is a blast. What other machine out can speak
what you type in one line of BASIC code? Didn't get home 'til 1:00 A.M. cause
of one line of code. Too much fun like that will cause me to loose too much
sleep. I don't think my wife will put up with it for another machine… but I
have to try.
I will enjoy the graphics and speed and multi-tasking. Mainframe abilities at
home. My coco will end up in the closet.

Are you from Pheonix? If you are, find some other Amiga users and let's start a
Users Group!!!

I am in Scottsdale.
I am in the phone book too. Leave a message on the machine if it is on.

I can't help but have uncomfortable reactions to such statements for a great
many reasons. One, the CoCo has been supported in a very gratifying way for
some time. It gave users like me a chance to explore computers in a way that
would otherwise have been impossible. I LIKE the feeling of loyalty I have for
it, and hope I can bring knowledge of more complex approaches to bear on
aspects of the CoCo and OS-9 environment for those who cannot hack a $2000.00
Amiga investment. Also, I do not think it would be wise for Tandy to drop a
machine that has done so well for them when revisions and upgrades are so
eminently feasible. There are many possibilities for a chip fundamentally
superior to the 8086 in many respects, even if it is 8-bit. The market which we
have simply been fortunate enough to leave in our rush to upward mobility is
still there, sitting, paying their Citiline bills, wondering what's to become
of them. Finally, I don't think it's good practice for us, the consumer to
display once again our fickle and irresponsible natures. If just a few of us
attempt to pay back the investment people like Rainbow magazine have made in
us, then it will bode well for the homeuser computer industry in general. We
must show ourselves worthy of those who go out on a limb with projects by not
leaving them in the dust when something better comes along. Consider paying
CoCo back for what it's given us! Take it out of the closet and dust it off. I
think there is much more than technical pyrotechnics to the computer
industry–it is people, and investments, and chances, and daring and failure.
Something to think about–a long look at the road back as we stride forward.
