Can the A2000 work with any of the versions or hacks of The Transformer?

Barry, Try the file in DL 9 called XFIX.ARC, it may do the job. Regards, Larry.

If only I had a 2000 to try it on, Larry 😎

Barry, Transformer WILL NOT run on the 2000 or the 500. With or without hacks to the program. Seems that transformer will try and modify memory in the Kick Start by turning off the write protect and then does a reset of the machine (not a total hardware reset). Since the Kickstart is in ROM in the 2000 and 500 it is impossible for the program to modify the code it wants to. Instant crash is the best you get. -Ralph

Ralph, so with your Kwikstart I'd have to disable it and load Kickstart 1.2 from disk?…Dave

Davey, Thinking about the 1.2 in the 1000 I don't think you could make it work with the ROM based 1.2 You would need to load a diskbased 1.2 so that it is located in the right area and that xfomer could then modify the code. It just can't be done when the OS is in ROM. I will verify this and let you know but from what we've seen so far xformer will only work in the 1000 and only with disk based kickstart. -Ralph

Ralph, ok I'll wait for your reply. BTW I still haven't gotten around to changing that clock back, but I haven't forgotten about returning it to you…Dave

Ralph, Have you had any luck getting Transformer to wokd with your INSIDER board. Specifically, have you tried and had any success with XFIX. I tried it, but it didn't work. I know the docs said NO RAM EXPANSION, but I tried anyway , using the RAM ON/OFF program supplied with INSIDER. Any suggestions? I really hate powering down & booting with 1.1 just to run Transformer for a few simple tasks! Thanks, Claude 75305,771

Claude, On/Off will have no effect under 1.2 for turning off the system pointers that are loaded when KickStart is loaded. You would have to change the dip switches to some other address than the autoconfig for it to work (same as booting under 1.1) Autoconfig memory puts those pointers in expansion memory and there is no way to turn them off with a program that I know of. -Ralph

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I figured if anyone had a solution, you would know about it. Since we're discussing unusual INSIDER configurations, it occured to me that if I bought an Amiga 2000 to replace my 1000, I won't have a use for my INSIDER. Then I wondered if there was any way to install and use an INSIDER in a 2000. Have you ever tried it or is it physically impossible? I'd hate to give up all that memory! The trade-in program would leave me with an INSIDER to sell, but I'd rather keep it (if I decided to go with the trade-in) and use it with the 2000. Claude

Claude, It won't fit inside, it does work electrically, we've tried it but the space limits would have it hanging outside the case, (not a pretty sight) -Ralph

Thanks! That's just one more good reason for me to keep my 1000. Claude
