I just tried out my new Amiga 500 today and received bad news – the power and
disk drive light flashed in a pattern of 11 consecutive blinks, and the screen
never displayed the INSERT WORKBENCH DISK message. Nor did the disk drive
activate. I assume I've got a defective unit. Any idea what the problem is?
Do the 11 flashes mean anything?

Not to be smart…but the 11 flashes mean take it back to the dealer
for an over-the-counter trade for another new machine (presuming yours was
brand new). Otherwise take it in for repair.
The flashes are a diagnostic, what exactly they mean I don't know, but
a repair manual should tell the service shop.
