Speedier bridgecard?

In the conference with Dave Haynie of Commodore, a question was asked if the
8088 on the bridgecard could be replaced with a NEC V20. Dave did not know for
sure, but he thought it could be. Is there any other way to speed up the
bridgecard, i.e. replace a clock timing crystal with a faster one like was done
on 6 MHz AT's? Dave said that the bridgecard interface chips had some leeway
in them to allow for future boards, like the 286 bridge-10MHz, so this approach
may be possible. How about the 286 accelerator boards? From what I know about
286 accelerator boards, this may not be possible. Many of the boards require
you to remove the 8088. I don't know if the bridgeboard will still communicate
with the Amiga with it's brain removed. Any thoughts?
It should work if the custom chips are not too timing sensitive. Since I did
not read the transcript of the conf, I don't know if that was said. Howevere,
judgin judging from what you wrote, I'd have to say that might not be a
problem. It's the same problem faced in clones, if the slower chip is pulled,
does the floppy controller base _everything_ on timing signals from the CPU?
God (/CBM???) only knows!.
