Arggh – how aggravating when LaserWriter output doesn't match the Linotronic's – especially at $10 a shot! Does anybody at Adobe have an answer for you? One strange thing I've noticed with the Linotronic are the differences in apparent screen densities at the 1250 or 2540 DPI resolutions. I wonder if your problem is a variation on this, or just a bug between '88 and the Linotronic. In your words "something else to keep track of"!

I haven't given it to Adobe to puzzle over. It seemed clear, sort of — that is, at actual size it prints OK on the LaserWriter. At that same size there are gaps in the hairlines on an L300. In the end I printed it larger on the LW for stats, and had to fiddle around with the scale or I got either gaps or uneven spacing on the LaserWriter as well. It must have something to do with the frequency and/or scale of the rules, but you'd think the Linotronic would fudge by a dot and give me optically even hairlines.
