I just captured the following message off a local bbs: I was down in New York for the UnixExpo and in one of the workstation demo areas I came across a unexpected sight…..an Amiga 2500 with a 68030 board, ethernet board, new fat agnes and ECS chip set running. .wait for it. .AT&T System V release 4 in an Xwindow environment with a separate MS-DOS window (via a 286 board). Now 90% of the vendors don't have a working version of the new AT&T Unix OS so this was a major surprise, not only that but Commodore is a VAR member and has been for some time. The only thing missing was the transputer which I was told was onboard but didn't YET work under the Unix OS (1st quarter 90 for a platform for the transputer). Anyways they has 2 Amigas connected via ethernet, one as the Xwindow (they were using Xopen or Motif, I can't remember which, or is that Open Look…boy I'm pooped from the trip) Client and the other as the Server. The word from the company was that they couldn't get the A3000 there in time and went with the less powerfull model but that they were going to attack the Unix workstation market in a big way. Hell I wish them luck but from what I saw they may not need it! Interesting news eh? Maybe this explains some of the delays behind the release of the Unix system in North America? I hope they have this system at Comdex so I can check it out when I'm there next week.
