It is difficult, if not unethical for me to recommend actual products.
Difficult, because everyone has a very different set of requirements which may
determine a certain choice of equipment, hardware or software. Unethical,
because I have a responsibility to my readers to provide them with an expert
evaluation of the product as used in a real life, professional setting (this is
what we do in every issue of Video Pro).
One thing I can tell you is that, rather than continue to experiment with the
low end products and be unhappy, you may want to look one notch up, so to speak
at some software with more pro features – it seems to be what you are really
