VoRec First impressions

I got my VoRecOne yesterday !! I must say I havenm't had as much fun with
a gadget in a long time !! It seems to be a very solid product with bug
free software (even though I'd rather push return than F4). For those
reading this, BUY ONE ! You'll have a ton of fun even if your Wife,
husband, girlfriend (in mycase) begins to hate you for inattention.
My first observations and suggestions: Remember I have had this less than
24 hours, so all is subject to change as I learn more.
1) I think it needs a set of universal commands for using intuition menus.
I would rather not have to program each menu item I use. I want to be able
to say "Menu" (selects menu bar with mouse) "zero" (shows me menu 1) "3"
(select 2nd item) "Go" (does it). This interactive format would be much
handier even though it would mean more memory overhead (the numbers and
such)
2)I use the mouse accelerator included with ClockDJ. It messes up the
"MOUSE X,Y" command. I don't know if other accelerators have this problem
or not.
3) I would like it if it had direct access to the Arp (or its own) file
requestor. I know this can be done via Arexx (I plan on working on it
after I send this message) but it would be nicer if you could call up a
built in function and have it return the result in an indivoidual variable
string.
4) The raw keys function in my opinion is ugly. I use Zing!keys and would
like to be able to voice key a <ctrl><leftAlt><F3> combination in an easier
way than trying to figure out the raw event. Either allow keywords for
those to be used in a KEYSEQ command or perhaps a little utility like
intuihelp that would return the raw code upon pressing the combination.
5) Back on the subject of a universal command set…How about a function to
deativate the voice recon until it receives a particular word. I can do
this using a subtree that only has one word which activates a POP 1 for
example but it is inelegant as it would need to be programmed for each tree
or word list. A universal command would be nicer.
6) The unit seems to insist on recognizing a word. I might clear my throat
or tap the microphone and it selects the last word I trained it to know.
7) I'm trying to make a normal string gadget activate. Is it a gadget up
down sideways. I can't get it to work. This may be my problem as I on;ly
tried it on one gadget and I think its program changes its number
sometimes. I will work on it.
Well that's about it for the first day. I'm sure I'll have more to "say"
about this later (pun intended). But I'm sure glad this doohickey is out.
I have a thought in mind about hooking the mic to my answering machine a
talk to amy over the phone.
By the way, since this is hardware based, can we expect software updates to
be uploaded to the forum as they become available ??
