Tim:
I don't remember the message I originally responded to but I see that this
could be the topic of a great debate. fist of all your message was on track
and I quote the following from it:
"It is therefore essential that we keep track of the technology, perhaps
especially so when we need to deal with outside service providers. This so we
know what they are trying to sell us."
The issue here is the definition of "we". I maintain that firms, creative
proffessionals alike, should focus on end results and perhaps a final
deliverable and not be involved in "process". For a video professional to make
a living and provide good service to their clients, they shouldn't be driven by
technology. I know of newspapers who still use razor blades for their paste
ups. As long as the advertisements in the newspaper draw customers for the
estanblishments who advertise in the newspaper, does it really matter if it was
laid out by Pagemaker or by hand with a razor blade, roller etc? Perhaps the
beginning of a series of articles. We could chat by telephone.
